In June this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued 5G commercial licenses to the three major operators, officially announcing the start of the first year of 5G. On September 19, China Telecom's "Tianyi Smart Ecosystem Expo" was held as scheduled. After issuing commercial licenses, what new ideas does China Telecom have for 5G development? How will the industry chain ecology be laid out?

Adhere to the 5G SA direction and promote the construction of 5G ecosystem

The theme of this conference is "Hello 5G Empowering the Future". China Telecom will work with industry chain partners to create a new intelligent ecosystem and usher in a new era of the Internet of Everything.

China Telecom Chairman Ke Ruiwen said that it is necessary to adhere to the 5G SA direction and innovate cooperation models to carry out 5G co-construction and sharing with the outside world.

At present, the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) has officially announced that China Telecom will take the lead in the global 5G industry to jointly formulate the "5G SA Deployment Guidelines".

In terms of network slicing, China Telecom has completed laboratory verification of network slicing based on a 5G SA end-to-end environment.

In terms of mobile edge computing, China Telecom independently developed the MEC platform, which was applied to VR live broadcasts of music award ceremonies.

China Telecom has built a cross-provincial and cross-domain large-scale test network with SA as the main and SA/NSA hybrid networking, and carried out 5G innovation demonstration pilots in 17 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

When talking about 5G network construction, Ke Ruiwen pointed out that the essence of 5G is openness, and co-construction and sharing are also inevitable requirements in the 5G era.

Recently, China Telecom has officially joined hands with China Unicom (6.130, -0.06, -0.97%) to jointly build a 5G network, and especially reached a consensus on the joint construction and sharing of 5G access networks and transmission networks.

Looking to the future, Ke Ruiwen expressed his desire to promote the construction of the 5G ecosystem, explore with customers, and innovate with the industry.

Make every effort to promote the popularization of 5G mobile phones and lower the price threshold of mobile phones

5G mobile phones have always been the focus of industry attention. At the "China Telecom Intelligent Terminal Technology Forum", Lu Liangjun, deputy general manager of China Telecom's marketing department, announced China Telecom's 5G terminal technology strategy and timetable.

Lu Liangjun said that 5G has once again given us an opportunity window for upgrading and switching, and there is market space, business space and improvement space for the development of 5G terminals.

He said that the scale of 5G mobile terminals will reach 170 million in 2020, and the current 5G mobile terminals have met commercial needs; with the upgrade from 4G to 5G, users have gone from watching videos to playing videos, and the experience has changed from being present to being absent. He believes that new services and new experiences drive the development of new terminals, and has clearly proposed three terminal demand strategies of "universal modules with rich experience" to the industry chain. In terms of performance, it will promote the improvement of uplink and downlink capabilities and peak rates of high-end terminals; actively promote 5G terminals to support Wi-Fi 6 and give play to the advantages of dual gigabits. In terms of experience, it will promote the maturity of portable VR terminals; promote 5G terminals to support general AR capabilities; upgrade voice services, fully popularize VoLTE, and promote VoLTE phones priced at RMB 100; promote support for new SA functions and focus on low-latency service support.

In terms of modules, the commercialization of general 5G modules will be accelerated, and the first 5G module will be commercialized by the end of the year. Focus on innovative terminals such as vehicles, drones, and robots (14.680, -0.35, -2.33%), and enable 5G+ in vertical industries. Lu Liangjun proposed that China Telecom will work with the industry chain to achieve 5G terminal standards, carry out 6 major innovative experiments for SA terminals and cooperate in 5G terminal product innovation to maintain industry leadership.

It is reported that China Telecom will cooperate with key manufacturers to launch 5G mobile phones priced under 2,000 yuan in the first half of next year.

Expand 5G ecological circle of friends and deepen vertical field cooperation

Ke Ruiwen made it clear that in the 5G era, China Telecom will be more determined to adopt an open and cooperative strategy and make it the focus of the entire group's work at present and in the future. "We must explore with customers, rely on the 5G Industry Innovation Alliance, 5G Terminal Alliance, Digital Alliance and Multimedia Innovation Platform, take out China Telecom's high-quality resources, and cooperate with partners in the industry chain and ecosystem in any form to jointly provide services to customers.

In terms of cloud computing, China Telecom Tianyi Cloud released the "5G+Tianyi Cloud+AI" strategy, and launched three enabling platforms: intelligent edge cloud platform, AI open platform, and enterprise application development platform (EADP).

In the payment field, Orange Finance, a subsidiary of China Telecom, signed the "Framework Agreement on Co-construction of Fintech Ecosystem in the 5G Era" with more than 20 industry partners in the fields of finance, retail, and technology to jointly build a new fintech ecosystem in the 5G era.

In terms of video, China Telecom also announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement on 5G business with Tencent Video. The two parties will cooperate in MEC edge computing (innovative application of 5G technology), high-definition video live broadcast, and improving user experience.
