VIAVI Launches New Test Solution for Network Equipment Manufacturers and Labs, Paving the Way for 800G Next-Generation Networks

VIAVI Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) today announced a series of new solutions for testing future networks in today's lab, production and manufacturing environments. With these new products, VIAVI further strengthens its position as the industry's most comprehensive test and measurement solution provider. The new solutions and more products will be on display at the OFC conference (Booth 2814) held in San Diego, USA from March 3 to 7.

Networks around the world are undergoing a revolutionary transformation - 5G, IoT, Gigabit to the home, and moving to the cloud. All of these networks rely on fiber optic communications - the only technology that can support this as bandwidth demands grow exponentially in every part of the network from edge to core. Today, our requirements for network performance are very stringent, and testing of devices and networks is critical, from the lab to production environments, and throughout the entire network lifecycle.

From basic optical connector and component testing to leading 100G/400G/800G transmission and next-generation protocol testing, VIAVI has designed optimized solutions for all stages of the production lifecycle - from design and product confirmation to manufacturing test applications. The new solution portfolio includes:

  • The MAP-300 photonic metrology and test automation platform complies with third-generation industry standards. As an upgraded version of MAP-200, MAP-300 meets the accuracy required for laboratory use and the requirements for configurability in manufacturing. The new multi-user architecture can prioritize key data through the support of customized user interfaces, and can achieve remote automation through direct IP socket connections, helping companies improve capital utilization and significantly reduce testing costs. At the same time, MAP-300 is also fully backward compatible with MAP-200 modules, protecting the existing investments of current WSS, 400GE and coherent line system manufacturers.
  • mOLM-C1 module for MAP-200 benchtop system. The introduction of this module further expands the MAP portfolio of insertion loss and return loss solutions for optical connector manufacturers. The mOLM-C1 module and PCT-rm application suite are designed from the ground up to create a cost-effective, space-optimized solution. With the unique ability to measure four wavelengths simultaneously without compromising specifications, the mOLM-C1 module is one of the fastest measurement systems on the market and the only solution of its kind that can share scripts and data between units.
  • Two new optical network tester (ONT) products - ONT-800 mainframe and 800G Flex module. Based on the ONT-600, which is regarded as the industry benchmark, ONT-800 can provide the required bandwidth, power and cooling requirements for testing at 800G/lambda and above. ONT-800 supports multiple service tests in R&D, SVT and manufacturing while retaining the automation, application and reliability of the previous generation ONT-600. The 800G Flex module has a wider test coverage, including PHY, PCS and Ethernet layers, giving manufacturers an advantage in designing and developing emerging technologies. The ONT-800 series can provide more matched port density for all applications in the product development life cycle, and can provide full-bandwidth 400G ODUflex for OTUC4 through FlexO or OTLC4.
  • FVAm Series Desktop Microscopes. The industry's first all-in-one desktop inspection and analysis microscope for MPO and other multi-fiber connectors. FVAm fully automates every step of the inspection and testing process with greater speed and reliability. FVAm can complete automated testing of multi-fiber connectors in 20 seconds, ensuring that factories can optimize the quality and performance of MPO cables and QSFP modules at every stage of production.

“Throughout VIAVI’s decades of innovation, we have delivered industry-leading suites of purpose-built products for the lab, production, and manufacturing sectors,” said Tom Fawcett, vice president and general manager of lab and production at VIAVI. “Today, with these new solutions, VIAVI is helping our customers and the industry get products to market faster with a test portfolio that is broad and deep and supports every stage of optical transmission system development.”
