Tian Suning's predictions for the 5G era: more scenarios, more ecosystems, and more risks

From November 7 to 9, the fifth World Internet Conference with the theme of "Creating a Digital World of Mutual Trust and Co-governance - Working Together to Build a Community of Shared Future in Cyberspace" opened at the Wuzhen Internet International Convention and Exhibition Center. Wuzhen once again set up the annual global Internet stage. Following yesterday's wonderful exposition of the theory of "Everything Connected Leads to an Explosion of Intelligent Business Species" and the first proposal of the concept of "Customer Operator" in the industry, Tian Suning, Chairman of AsiaInfo Group, once again attracted heated discussions with his wonderful speech at the "5G Era: Open Cooperation to Create the Future" forum today. The scenario-based model of 5G networks, the migration of customer operations to the edge of the network, and more complex network security risks all indicate that "5G, a new era of industrial Internet" is coming.

At present, information and communication technology has widely penetrated all fields of the global economy and society. At the same time, new technologies represented by artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, big data, edge computing, smart home, Internet of Things and 5G are booming, which are profoundly changing the way of production, life and thinking of human beings, and changing the progress of human civilization. The 5G network is providing new infrastructure for the advent of the consumer Internet era. Its large-scale commercial value is undoubtedly to make "intelligent connection of all things" truly "paper" and become a reality.

Richer network service scenarios

Data from various sources of global surveys indicate that 5G will drive the overall economic value of downstream industries with an investment of trillions of dollars, and bring about the evolution or reshaping of business models. Therefore, in the face of unlimited business opportunities, clarifying user needs, service forms and experience perception trends in the 5G era, and sorting out service quality, efficiency and value in the context of the 5G era will be the key to future competition.

Tian Suning believes that the business model of paying by time and distance is disappearing, and future network services will be reflected in a scenario-based model. He said: "For each network slice, exclusive resources such as network bandwidth, service quality, and security can be fully guaranteed. This makes the network no longer a pipeline and data porter when 5G is deployed, but a rich network that glues applications and users at the beginning of deployment. Secondly, we will also usher in unprecedented connection and service methods. Services will exist in the form of integration of connection, cognition, and computing. The value of network services will not only be measured by traffic, but also by bandwidth, connection capacity, real-time, reliability, availability, and many other factors. Therefore, its billing method will be more oriented to usage scenarios."

Smarter connectivity at the network edge

When people mention AI or intelligent computing, we tend to think of "brain" and "cloud acceleration", but not all applications will run in the cloud. The neural network established by 5G pushes computing to the edge of the network, closer to the data source, and terminal devices can obtain analysis and responses close to the customer. This evolution will reshape the business support system and bring about the "customer operator" model.

Tian Suning said: The development from consumer Internet to industrial Internet still needs to cross many thresholds. How to extend from smart cloud to smart edge is a question that upstream and downstream manufacturers are thinking about. The super-large and super-strong connection of 5G network provides us with the basis for personalized services based on edge scenarios. Service providers can provide services that accurately meet customer needs in real time based on the time, location, status and behavior characteristics of customers at the edge of the network, and then complete the business process reengineering from perception to prediction. In addition, the customer management model based on transaction information will be replaced by more proactive biometric technology. Internet of Things-themed network services will be deeply integrated with many scenarios such as industrial manufacturing, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, and urban management, and form a comprehensive service relationship based on industrial ecology.

More complex cybersecurity challenges

In the scenario of everything being connected built by 5G+IoT, all kinds of smart terminals can quickly access the mobile Internet through 5G channels, and various hacker attacks and malicious codes will follow, which will have a fatal impact on mobile office security, sensitive data, and even national infrastructure. Therefore, eliminating concerns about mobile security risks under 5G networks will be conducive to the use of mobile innovation technologies and the progress of productivity in the process of 5G applications.

Tian Suning believes that the connection of all things means that almost all devices used in daily life will be connected to the Internet, and they will become potential targets of cyber attacks. The dense network deployment will make the entrances to the network ubiquitous, and in various forms with different security levels, so network attacks will also be widespread. At the same time, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other technical means will not only be used for beneficial network applications, but also for harmful network attacks. 5G networks will have more personal privacy online, more transaction processes online, and more digital assets online. AsiaInfo is working with users and alliance partners to jointly respond to this more complex challenge, conduct in-depth research in the fields of 5G applications, network security risk management and control, and edge computing, and protect the infrastructure of the industrial Internet. This is the mission given to us in the new era.
