Just a few days ago, the plenary session of the international standardization organization 3GPP formally approved the freezing of the independent networking (SA) function of the fifth-generation mobile communication technology standard (5G NR). Together with the 5G NR non-independent networking (NSA) standard frozen in December 2017, the full-function standardization work of the 5G first stage has been completed and released, and the 5G industry's full sprint stage has begun. Do we need 5G? Obviously, we do. Faced with the rapid development of informatization, all walks of life need better network support. From analog to digital, from 2G to 4G, people have seen tremendous changes. With the arrival of 5G, the entire society will make greater progress. As far as we expect now, 5G networks are faster, have shorter latency, consume less energy, and can provide resources for IoT deployment over a larger area. The era of the Internet of Everything is truly coming. Of course, 5G is of great significance to China. If we say that 2G imitated, 3G caught up, and 4G followed, then with 5G, China has started to synchronize with the world. It is understood that Chinese manufacturers account for about 30% of the 5G standard and have a leading advantage in key technologies such as large-scale antennas, ultra-dense networking, non-orthogonal multiple access, TDD system design, and Internet of Vehicles. In the 5G era, China, the United States and Europe are back on the same starting line again, probably with a three-way competition. Huawei, Qualcomm, Ericsson and others will share the main market, which will inevitably lead to intensified competition in related industries. According to a report by the US Wireless Communications and Internet Association (CTIA) on June 17, the US should speed up the introduction of 5G technology, otherwise it may lag behind China by one to two years and will not have other opportunities in the future. According to the association's conclusion, China and South Korea have surpassed the United States in the introduction of 5G. The US National Security Council (NSC) also warned that if China dominates the communications field, they will not only win technological victories, but also political, economic, and military victories. It can be seen that this is a typical rhythm of provoking trouble. In the development of the 5G industry, China is no longer lagging behind in technology, and its huge market space advantage will become the main force that determines victory or defeat. More than one billion users and the world's largest manufacturing industry will gain new momentum because of 5G. According to media reports, it was learned from the National Engineering Laboratory Conference jointly held by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Mobile, and Datang Telecom Group that: with the official release of the complete version of the 5G standard, my country's 5G industry will be fully launched, and testing, R&D, and trials will also be carried out in all directions, thereby providing support for the large-scale commercial use of 5G in 2020. This information clearly shows that China will commercialize 5G on a large scale by 2020 at the latest, instead of being late to the world like 3G and 4G. 5G is likely to be the first time that mainland China will enjoy the latest communication technology in sync with the world. We may not even be able to use 5G networks until 2020, because all three telecom operators will rush ahead without exception, and the issuance of licenses may just be a confirmation process. In 2017, Shang Bing, chairman of China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd., said, "From the 1G blank, 2G follow-up, 3G breakthrough, 4G 'running side by side', to now ushering in the 5G era, China must lead the world in technology." China Mobile officially launched 5G research and development work in 2012, and has carried out 3.5GHz prototype development and verification, high-frequency communication prototype development and testing, and 5G system concept verification with industry partners. In November 2017, in terms of 5G basic communications, China Mobile demonstrated the world's first "5G New Air Interface End-to-End Interoperability" based on international unified standards. The system operates in the 3.5GHz frequency band and 100MHz bandwidth, with a downlink peak rate of over 1.3Gbps. The "Zhanzhan Cup" 5G Application Collection Competition, guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and hosted by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, is the first and largest 5G industry application competition in China. After five months of competition, China Mobile's "5G Autonomous Driving System" stood out among more than 300 projects and won the first prize. Liu Guiqing, executive vice president of China Telecom Group, also said that with the release of the 5G independent networking standard, China Telecom plans to steadily advance 5G performance verification and network function optimization by expanding existing multi-city field tests to promote the healthy development of the 5G industry. Shao Guanglu, deputy general manager of China Unicom, said that China Unicom will work with partners to build a good 5G ecosystem and create a new situation and pattern of 5G with the attitude of "five new" Unicom. In early June, China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute and Huawei took the lead in launching the IPRAN2.0 specification function verification for 5G bearer in Beijing, and conducted laboratory surveys for subsequent 5G live network pilots and large-scale commercial use. Of course, for ordinary people, 5G mobile phones are the most concerned topic. We predict that before 2019, before the end of this year, there will be 5G concept flagship phones on the market, and everyone just needs to prepare the money. |
