Huawei wins "2018 GSMA Mobile Industry Outstanding Contribution Award"

At a special ceremony held last night, GSMA presented Huawei with the "2018 Mobile Industry Outstanding Contribution Award" in recognition of Huawei's decades of contributions in advocating new technology standards, promoting digital transformation, and building a digital ecosystem. Huawei's rotating CEO Hu Houkun accepted the award on behalf of the company.

It is reported that the "GSMA Mobile Industry Outstanding Contribution Award" is intended to honor individuals, companies and organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of the ICT industry and mobile communications. Technological contribution is an important reason why Huawei won this honor. As Hu Houkun said in his brief speech when accepting the award: "Over the years, we have worked with our partners to promote the development of 3G, 4G and cutting-edge ICT technologies including 5G, allowing more people to connect to the Internet and enjoy better services."

Huawei was founded in 1987. Over the past 30 years, it has attached great importance to technological innovation and research, and has invested 10%-15% of its annual revenue in research and development. From 2007 to 2016, the total investment has exceeded RMB 300 billion, and in 2016 alone, it invested RMB 76.4 billion. At present, Huawei has become a global technology innovation leader with telecommunications networks, enterprise network solutions and consumer terminals as its core businesses. In recent years, Huawei has vigorously promoted technological innovation in cloud, artificial intelligence and 5G, and is committed to building the next generation of digital infrastructure.

"Today, Huawei has connected more than one-third of the world's population, and I am very proud of this." Huawei's achievements are precisely due to its accumulation of experience in technological innovation. In Hu Houkun's view, "the industry is constantly developing, and the communications industry will become the cornerstone of the development of a fully connected intelligent society. There is still a lot of work waiting for Huawei to do in the future."

Commitment to industry cooperation is another key factor in Huawei's winning of the "GSMA Mobile Industry Outstanding Contribution Award". Huawei has actively joined more than 360 standard organizations, industry associations and open source communities, playing an important role in building a broader digital ecosystem.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of the GSMA and founder and chairman of India's Bharti Industries, said: "On behalf of the GSMA, I would like to congratulate Huawei on its achievements in driving industry development. In just three decades, Huawei has grown into the world's largest supplier of mobile network equipment. Huawei's contribution to global standards, its innovative approach and commitment to helping customers and partners succeed will have a lasting impact on the future development of the communications industry."
