Everything is connected and edge computing is intelligent

On November 30, the 2017 Edge Computing Industry Summit, hosted by the Edge Computing Industry Alliance (ECC), was officially held in Beijing. As the world's most influential edge computing industry event, this summit, with the theme of "Intelligent Connection of Everything, Intelligent Edge Computing", brought together more than 600 leading industry experts, corporate leaders, industry analysts and customers from Europe, the United States and China to discuss cutting-edge edge computing technologies, showcase innovative edge computing applications, aggregate edge computing industry ecosystems, and promote the rapid development of the edge computing industry.

Explore industry development and seize new opportunities in edge computing

The Internet and the Internet of Things are developing rapidly, and the era of the Internet of Everything has begun. Edge computing focuses on the intelligent connection of all things, meeting the key needs of industry digitalization in terms of connection, real-time, intelligence, data optimization, security and privacy protection, and has become an indispensable key element of the industry's digital transformation. The industry development has entered an important period of opportunity.

This summit was full of exciting content, including the main forum and two industry summit forums: "Edge Intelligence, Great Industrial Development" and "Edge Intelligence, Agile New Business". International experts from IDC, Industrial Internet Alliance (IIC), Fraunhofer Research Group of Germany, and more than 10 alliance members and partners such as Huawei, Shenzi Institute, and Intel made 12 keynote speeches and 16 technical sharings, discussing how to grasp the future direction and development opportunities of the edge computing industry, promote the digital transformation of the industry, and jointly move towards rapid growth as the era of the Internet of Everything accelerates from the three perspectives of business, technology, and ecology.

Committed to commercial implementation, demonstrating innovative edge computing applications

On November 30, 2016, the Edge Computing Alliance (ECC) was officially established at the first Edge Computing Industry Summit. After just one year of development, it now has 154 member units, including leading companies from the smart manufacturing, smart city, energy and power, and ICT industries, as well as research institutes and colleges in related fields. The alliance adopts a parallel operation mode of horizontal working groups and vertical industry committees, and creates innovative solutions for edge computing by jointly building joint test beds, exploring industry value, promoting application implementation, and helping alliance members achieve commercial success. So far, the Edge Computing Alliance (ECC) has completed 21 test bed solutions.

The exhibition hall for innovative applications and experiences in the edge computing industry at this summit covers an area of more than 600 square meters. It showcases 14 test beds and innovative solutions jointly created by alliance members such as Huawei, Shenzhi Institute, Intel, iSoftStone, Honeywell, Siasun Robotics, NI, Vox, Hollysys, SmartCore, Wipai, Sansi Lighting, 360 Enterprise Security, the 15th Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and Wei'an Zongheng. These solutions cover industries such as smart factories, CNC machine tools, industrial robots, smart safety and supervision, smart water services, smart street lights, smart grids, smart parks, network security, and public safety. Through intuitive demonstrations and on-site interactions, the best application practices and commercial value of edge computing in the industry are presented to visitors.

***EC-IoT development, release of edge computing reference architecture 2.0

Since its establishment, the Edge Computing Industry Alliance (ECC) has always regarded the formulation of system architecture and the selection of technical routes as an important means to promote the development of the edge computing industry. It uses reference architecture to provide cross-industry design as a reference, and is guided by customer needs, industry best practices, and the alliance's commercial success. It integrates the "government, industry, academia, research and application" industry resources to promote open cooperation and collaboration in technical architecture, standards, solutions and applications.

As an important achievement of alliance-driven innovation, the "Edge Computing Reference Architecture 2.0" was officially released at this summit, focusing on explaining the concept, characteristics, and value of edge computing. It fully demonstrated the ECC Edge Computing Reference Architecture 2.0 from three dimensions: conceptual view, functional view, and deployment view. It proposed to build a model-driven intelligent distributed open architecture to achieve architectural simplicity, OICT facility automation and visualization, and intelligent collaboration of resource services and industry business needs. Through a full-level open architecture, it promotes cross-industry ecological collaboration and rapid product incubation, providing directional guidance for edge computing technology research and development, application innovation, and industrial development.

Carry out strategic cooperation and build an open industrial ecosystem

In order to promote the coordination of industrial resources and promote the development of edge computing industry, the Edge Computing Industry Alliance (ECC) has been committed to the construction of an open ecosystem and actively carried out exchanges and cooperation with third-party standard organizations and international industry organizations. At present, the Edge Computing Industry Alliance (ECC) has established formal cooperation with organizations such as the Industrial Internet Alliance (IIC), the SDNFV Industry Alliance, the Chinese Automation Association (CAA), and Avnu Alliance, and has carried out all-round cooperation in standard setting, joint innovation, and commercial promotion.

At this summit, the Edge Computing Industry Alliance (ECC) and the Industrial Internet Industry Alliance (AII) formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement, announcing that the two parties will cooperate in research reports/white papers, test platforms/test beds, technical standards, and market promotion in the future; signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the International Semiconductor Lighting Alliance (ISA) and the Vehicle Information Service Industry Application Alliance (TIAA), and jointly committed to promoting the application innovation, standard setting and commercial implementation of edge computing in the fields of smart lighting and smart vehicles. At the same time, it was announced that it would jointly hold the "2018 Edge Computing Technology Seminar (SEC-China 2018)" with Xidian University and the Edge Computing Professional Committee of the Chinese Automation Society to provide exchanges and cooperation for academic and industrial circles in related fields, become a platform for publishing cutting-edge scientific research results in related fields, and vigorously promote the development of China's edge computing technology and industry.
