Yu Xin: What does ofo want to do?

[51CTO.com original article] The 16th China Internet Conference was grandly opened at the Beijing National Convention Center from July 11 to 13, 2017. At the "2017 China Internet Executive Annual Meeting" held on July 12, Mr. Yu Xin, co-founder of ofo, delivered a keynote speech entitled "ofo wants to change more than just the last kilometer", sharing the creation and development history of ofo with Internet industry insiders. The emergence of ofo filled the gap in the field of short-distance travel in cities and quickly became a convenient and fast way of travel for short-distance commuting in cities.

Ofo was founded in June 2015 and has connected 6.5 million shared bikes, providing more than 1 billion trips to more than 100 million users in 150 cities around the world. Before the emergence of shared bikes, there was still a blank in the field of short-distance travel in cities. We think that in the city, a three-kilometer trip takes the same amount of time as a twenty-kilometer trip. Three kilometers is an awkward distance where you may be able to take a taxi closer, walk farther, take the subway, and wait for the bus for an uncertain time. And the distance of twenty kilometers itself takes this long. So a three-kilometer trip and a twenty-kilometer trip may actually take thirty to forty minutes.

In 2015, ofo started the shared bike business in Peking University. At that time, I actually read the book "36 Rules for Entrepreneurship" written by Mr. Sun Taoran, a senior fellow of Peking University. The book mentioned that entrepreneurs should do "what people need" instead of "what people want". Changing the meaning of cycling and upgrading consumption is something we have always wanted to do. In fact, consumption upgrading is a change in lifestyle. What ofo wants to change is definitely not just the last mile.

Cool technology changes people's lifestyles. Recently, Alibaba opened an unmanned supermarket, where everyone pays for their purchases on their own. In fact, before Alibaba appeared, people may only have one choice to buy things, which is to go to the mall. Now I believe that fewer and fewer people go to the mall, and gradually they can solve their problems online. In fact, this is a way of life based on technology.

We hope to achieve the following: For example, in the first half of this year, we worked with China Telecom and Huawei to create the first truly NB-IOT smart car lock in the industry. At the same time, we designed a network called a convolutional neural system in the background system.

First of all, it can bring a lot of convenience from the operational level. For example, through smart toilets, we can better manage our vehicles and do grid management. At the same time, it can make our operations more refined and accurate during the operation process.

By scanning the code, a large amount of data will be generated in the background, and the amount of data in the ofo background reaches tens of TB every day. We can analyze the background data to determine where users prefer to go or where there are more people, and then we can dispatch some vehicles to let our limited vehicles serve more people.

At the same time, ofo built an open cooperation platform some time ago. The significance of the open cooperation platform is very great. For example, on this platform, we are now connected to Didi, CITIC Bank, and Ant Financial. What can we do? For example, many people know that we cooperate with Ant Financial, and users with a credit score of more than 650 points can use the car without a deposit. For example, we cooperate with CITIC Bank, and users who have applied for CITIC Yellow Card can also use the car without a deposit, which is a convenience.

Imagine if we cooperate with Didi, we are indeed doing one thing with Didi now, which is to make users' travel seamless. For example, if a user wants to go to Jiuxianqiao now, after entering the destination, I can recommend the most suitable travel method for you. At the same time, after getting off Didi, I will tell you that there is a car next to you, and you can ride it to your destination, which may be more convenient.

Therefore, as a truly open platform, we can provide better services to users through scientific and technological means. So in fact, ofo focuses on short-distance travel in cities, but it wants to change more than just the last mile. What we want to change is, of course, the service is a very important part, which has always been the most important part of ofo. At the same time, we also look far ahead, and we also hope to truly change the travel methods, lifestyles, and consumption habits of people in cities, and change everything related to users, so as to change the world.
