Don’t want to be one of the 70% who fail in digital transformation? Riverbed Application Performance Management Upgrade

Enterprises are in the stage of high enthusiasm for digital transformation. Everyone is busy with it or on the way. However, a survey data from IDC is like a bucket of cold water poured on the head. "In 2017, 60% of digital transformation initiatives will not be able to expand due to the lack of strategic framework; in 2018, 70% of digital transformation initiatives that are carried out independently will fail due to lack of collaboration, integration, procurement or project management." In other words, no matter how excited we are and how well prepared we think we are, we never thought that we have not laid a solid foundation for digital transformation from the "root". Zhang Xiaohe, technical director of Riverbed Greater China, spoke on behalf of Riverbed: "To truly achieve digital transformation, we need to rethink the network and application infrastructure."

Where is the problem now? How to come up with a new idea? From the perspective of enterprises that are busy with digital transformation and the implementation of cloud computing technology, enterprises are constantly changing their original network architecture. The complexity of network architecture has led to enterprises becoming less and less "understanding" of their own IT infrastructure; from the perspective of the general trend of the market, hardware and technology vendors are constantly decoupling, and software delivery is becoming more and more mainstream, which leads to enterprises tending to use specific digital technologies to solve each single problem when solving decentralized business problems. This means that although enterprises are constantly working hard on digitalization, they are unable to fully integrate digital technology with operations. The continuous internal application performance problems of enterprises are deeply rooted in the underlying infrastructure and cannot be effectively solved. How can enterprises realize that in order to truly achieve the best synergy of applications, computing, storage and network infrastructure, they must let all departments work together, seamlessly connect, and form a community of shared destiny? Riverbed is well aware of the pain points of these companies that are eager to transform, so the goal is to implement a strategic architecture across the enterprise, integrate all components, and thus form a seamless, software-defined system, and use this system to deliver high-performance applications, data and services.

So, what has Riverbed done for cloud, hybrid network and digital environment? Recently, Riverbed announced the launch of two new solutions to improve network performance, Riverbed SteelCentral Application Performance Command Center and SteelCentral SaaS solution. These two solutions start from the front line of enterprise application management, and SteelCentral's functions are further updated to fully cover the network, infrastructure, unified communications and end-user areas.

Riverbed SteelCentral provides a solution to the problem of insufficient application performance management capabilities mentioned above. SteelCentral improves the communication and interoperability between performance monitoring modules, helping enterprises better manage data packets, infrastructure, various applications and unified communications. In addition, SteelCentral has also expanded the end-user experience management capabilities to better cope with the changing demands of modern enterprise IT from various new devices, new platforms and new things. Zhang Xiaohe added: "SteelCentral monitors applications, networks, infrastructure and end users inside and outside the cloud, helping enterprises to manage performance as a whole, allowing enterprises to more proactively discover performance problems in the entire business chain and quickly find the problem." It is understood that in order to enable enterprise users to quickly discover the source of performance problems, SteelCentral has further enriched the "performance indicators" and provided users with fine-grained transaction data that previously required data packet analysis to obtain. By comparing the data, users can quickly find application performance problems, which also reduces the average time to repair faults.

It is understood that Riverbedbed's release of SteelCentral AppResponse 11 integrates the network-based monitoring solutions SteelCentral AppResponse and SteelCentral NetShark. All updates to the Riverbed SteelCentral platform will be officially launched in the near future.

Furthermore, in order to solve the performance detection and management problems of enterprises in managing emerging mobile and cloud technologies, Riverbedbed also announced the launch of SteelCentral SaaS solution, which provides cloud performance management, and SteelCentral Aternity can extend the monitoring capability to any terminal device. SteelCentral SaaS effectively combines the end-user experience with application monitoring and network performance monitoring, and also uses a visual method to provide enterprises with a comprehensive monitoring solution for cloud applications.

The update of SteelCentral and the launch of the cloud version allow enterprises to intuitively see performance data from multiple aspects of the business application chain, including application servers, application codes, UC systems, local area networks, wide area networks, browsers and end-user devices. No matter where the problem occurs, it can be quickly discovered and repaired in time.

In my opinion, the development of digital transformation and software application delivery are complementary. Digital transformation requires application delivery in the form of software, and applications delivered in the form of software promote the full implementation of digital transformation. Riverbed's momentum in continuously improving its products shows us their determination to help enterprises with digital transformation. The new concept of delivering application performance monitoring solutions in software also opens up a new path for enterprises. Of course, there are more than one way to overtake, but this path of standing on the front line of enterprise business applications is a more direct one.
