HPE Aruba Networking Launches Enterprise-Grade Private 5G Network to Simplify Deployment of Dedicated Cellular Networks

HPE (NYSE: HPE ) today announced the launch of HPE Aruba Networking, an enterprise-grade private 5G network designed to help customers deploy and manage private 5G networks faster and easier to provide reliable, high-quality wireless coverage in large campus and industrial environments and to fully tap into new private cellular network application scenarios.

With the expansion of its edge-to-cloud security portfolio, HPE Aruba Networking has become the world's only enterprise-class infrastructure provider to offer complete Wi-Fi network and private 5G network solutions, designed to help customers in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, public places, and education address complex network connectivity challenges at large and remote sites. The newly launched HPE Aruba Networking private 5G network, as a supplement to the cost-effective, high-capacity connectivity provided by Wi-Fi, can help customers improve productivity and innovation, and expand artificial intelligence (AI) data capture and delivery capabilities for building AI data lakes and activating reasoning solutions.

“Enterprise and industrial customers are increasingly looking to provide wireless coverage in demanding environments, such as large outdoor areas, serving fast-moving clients, and providing deterministic network access in dedicated spectrum. However, the complexity of traditional private cellular solutions has held them back,” said Stuart Strickland, chief technology officer, wireless, HPE Aruba Networking. “HPE Aruba Networking continues to innovate in wireless and now fully supports private cellular by combining the Athonet core cellular solution with our heritage in enterprise networking .”

HPE Aruba Networking Enterprise-Grade Private 5G Networks enables communications service providers (CSPs ) to quickly deploy private 5G networks for their customers. This integrated private 5G network solution will complement existing Wi-Fi-based managed services, helping telecom customers serve the growing private cellular network market and create new revenue streams from their existing enterprise customers.

With the general availability of HPE Aruba Networking enterprise-grade private 5G networks, enterprises can now achieve fully integrated private 5G network connectivity that is reliable, secure, and high-performance through:

  1. A complete end-to-end portfolio including 4G/5G core , HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers, SIM/eSIM cards, 4G/5G small cells and dashboards.
  2. New 4G/5G small cell radios from HPE provide indoor/outdoor network coverage without the need to integrate and use separate management tools from third-party vendors.
  3. Simplified cloud-native management and automation capabilities covering user management, deployment management, core monitoring and radio monitoring , with future integration expected with HPE Aruba Networking Central.
  4. Expand AI data collection and delivery capabilities to build AI data lakes and activate inference solutions.
  5. Beginning in 2025, the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum will be gradually made available for use in areas of the United States and around the world that meet regulatory conditions, to enable interoperability with shared spectrum available for private sector use.
  6. Simplify configuration with pre-integrated, pre-tested solutions that cover all the operations required to deploy enterprise private 4G/5G networks.
  7. With zero-touch provisioning and configuration wizards, the solution can be deployed in less than 30 minutes, bypassing the complexity of legacy 3GPP cellular networks.

The successful integration of this private 5G network product is due to Athonet , a private cellular network technology provider acquired by HPE in 2023. Athonet has 15 years of industry experience in the field of private cellular networks and has completed the deployment of private cellular network solutions for 500 companies . As an award-winning technology pioneer, Athonet has successful customer deployment cases in many industries , including leading mobile operators, hospitals, airports, ports, public utilities, governments and public safety organizations .

“HPE Aruba Networking’s enterprise-grade private 5G network is a critical step forward in addressing the complexity, cost, control, and management challenges associated with many of today’s private network deployments,” said Patrick Filkins , senior research manager for IoT and Telecommunications at IDC. “This pragmatic approach by HPE Aruba Networking focuses on how to best integrate private cellular networks within an enterprise’s existing IT architecture and simplifies network and device management using familiar tools, as well as dynamic allocation and reservation of device policies across 4G/5G , Wi-Fi , and wireless LAN .

Many private network solutions are too complex, even for large enterprises with in-house networking expertise , said Tom Rebbeck , partner at Analysys Mason . “We anticipate that customers will embrace solutions that make it easier to deploy and manage private networks .
