NVIDIA today announced a 6G research platform that gives researchers a new approach to developing the next generation of wireless technology. The NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud Platform is open, flexible, and interconnected, providing researchers with a comprehensive set of tools to advance AI applications in radio access network (RAN) technology. The platform enables companies to accelerate the development of 6G technology, connecting trillions of devices to cloud infrastructure, laying the foundation for a super-intelligent world based on self-driving cars, smart spaces, and a variety of extended reality and immersive educational experiences and collaborative robots. Early adopters and ecosystem partners include Ansys, Arm, ETH Zurich, Fujitsu, Keysight Technologies, Nokia, Northeastern University, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, SoftBank Corporation and Viavi. “6G will require a dramatic improvement in radio spectrum efficiency for wireless communications as the number of connected devices increases dramatically and new applications emerge,” said Ronnie Vasishta, senior vice president of telecommunications at NVIDIA. “The key to achieving this goal is leveraging AI, a software-defined full RAN reference stack, and next-generation digital twins.” The NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud consists of three components: NVIDIA Aerial Omniverse Digital Twin for 6G: A reference application and developer sample that enables physically accurate simulation of complete 6G systems from single tower to city scale. It combines software-defined RAN and user equipment simulators with realistic terrain and object properties. With Omniverse Aerial Digital Twin, researchers will be able to simulate and build base station algorithms based on site-specific data and improve transmission efficiency by training models in real time. NVIDIA Aerial CUDA-accelerated Radio Access Network: A software-defined full RAN protocol stack that gives researchers tremendous flexibility to customize, program, and test 6G networks in real time. NVIDIA Sionna Neural Radio Framework: This framework integrates seamlessly with popular frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow to generate, acquire massive amounts of data, and train AI and machine learning (ML) models using NVIDIA GPUs. The framework also includes NVIDIA Sionna, a leading link-level research tool for AI/ML-based wireless simulations. Leading researchers in the industry can use all the capabilities of the 6G Development Research Cloud Platform to advance their work. “The future convergence of 6G and AI is expected to revolutionize the technology landscape,” said Charlie Zang, senior vice president of Samsung Research America. “This will result in seamless connectivity and intelligent systems that will redefine how we interact with the digital world, ushering in an era of unparalleled innovation and connectivity.” Testing and simulation will play a critical role in the development of next-generation wireless technologies. Leading providers in this field are working with NVIDIA to meet the new requirements created by AI and 6G. "Ansys is committed to advancing the mission of the 6G Research Cloud by seamlessly integrating the advanced Ansys Perceive EM solver into the Omniverse ecosystem," said Shawn Carpenter, program director, 5G/6G and Space at Ansys. "Perceive EM revolutionizes the creation of digital twins of 6G systems. The combination of NVIDIA and Ansys technologies will undoubtedly pave the way for AI-enabled 6G communications systems." "Access to wireless-specific design tools is limited, yet essential for building powerful AI," said Kailash Narayanan, president and general manager of Keysight's Communications Solutions Group. "Keysight is excited to apply our wireless networking expertise to enable the next generation of innovation in 6G communications networks." The NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud brings together these powerful foundational tools to enable telecom companies to fully unlock the potential of 6G and pave the way for future wireless technologies. Researchers who want access to the platform can sign up for the NVIDIA 6G Developer Program. |
