Huawei's IP production and broadcasting network solutions continue to innovate, helping television enter the ultra-high-definition era

Today is World Television Day. Do you remember the last time your family had a good time together watching TV? Modern people's lives are surrounded by electronic products, and television has also brought new viewing experiences. Multiple lenses can achieve real-time 360-degree viewing angles, and 8K ultra-high definition brings an immersive experience. As a mainstream media tool, television has greatly broadened the window of human cognition. In 1996, the United Nations determined the outstanding contribution of television to global cultural exchanges and information dissemination, and designated November 21 of each year as "World Television Day."

Regarding TV, has your DNA moved?

When Chinese people got married in the 1980s, television was definitely the most important part of the betrothal gift; "The Story of Calabash Brothers", originally produced by Shanghai Fine Arts Film Studio in 1986, accompanied the childhood of those born in the 1980s and 1990s; and in the early hours of the morning, before the large-scale popular science program "Science Approaches" started broadcasting, you must have seen multi-colored blocks when you turned on the TV. In fact, it was a TV test card for checking the working performance of the color decoder. Perhaps that was the earliest "heartbreaking" experience.

The History of Television

Looking back at the history of television development over the past century, as early as 1877, French scientist Senlec used the difference in resistance of selenium to design and manufacture an instrument that transmits images by electric current, and named it "remote electron microscope". In fact, it was not until 1900 that the term "television" was formally proposed by the British Constantine Paski. The real television was invented by the British John Baird in 1925. This is a practical mechanical scanning television device that realizes the generation of images. The first television in my country was the Beijing brand 14-inch black-and-white TV independently manufactured by Tianjin Radio Factory in 1958.

Later, as the times developed, television technology continued to innovate and break through. Color cathode ray tubes added color to television images, and communications enabled television to broadcast the first human landing on the moon live around the world. In the new millennium, the emergence of digital television brought a new audio-visual experience to the television industry, and 8K film and television let light and shadow shine into reality, bringing the ultimate viewing experience.

What changes will 8K bring to our lives?

The three Chinese astronauts on the Shenzhou 13 used 8K to shoot a documentary about the space sky. In the field of industrial production, 8K can be used to present subtle changes in parts and components in industrial production. In addition to the fields of film, television, sports, and competition, 8K also makes telemedicine a reality. Surgical lines that are difficult to see with the naked eye can be clearly presented in 8K. In terms of security, only a small number of cameras are needed to monitor a large area. For example, in the field of cultural relics protection, 8K can restore the details of cultural relics to the greatest extent and increase the protection of cultural relics.

Where will television production and broadcasting plans go in the future?

Television has evolved from electron tubes and transistors to integrated circuits, from black and white to brilliant colors, and from standard definition to high definition, 4K, and 8K. With the widespread application of new-generation digital technology, television plays a more important role in communication media, and the audience's demand for ultra-clear and more immersive experience is increasing day by day. The large-scale development of the television industry towards ultra-high-definition industry and the transformation towards IP and integrated media have become the general trend, and at the same time, the bandwidth and performance requirements of the production and broadcasting system are growing exponentially.

From understanding the situation to breaking it

Traditional TVs use dedicated SDI copper cables, and signals are transmitted unidirectionally in SDI copper cables. The current maximum bandwidth of an SDI copper cable is 24G. If you want to transmit an uncompressed 8K signal, you need 48G bandwidth, and the number of cables will at least double, increasing the difficulty of deployment and maintenance. Once a cable breaks, it needs to be replaced, and it is very difficult to find the broken cable. In addition, SDI copper cables have a short transmission distance and are very thick and heavy, so just carrying them is a big problem.

Content is the core asset of video, so uncompressed signals are crucial for 8K. Uncompressed signals require stable bandwidth without bursts, no packet loss during transmission, and support for us-level time synchronization accuracy, which are very important for 8K technology.

Advantages of Huawei's IP-based Production and Broadcasting Solution

Huawei's IP production and broadcasting network solution, built based on all-IP solutions, network slicing, and high-bandwidth capabilities, breaks through the bottleneck of ultra-high-definition production and broadcasting technology, and IP-based various production and broadcasting subsystems such as master control, studio, OB vehicle, broadcast domain, and collection, to achieve integrated production and broadcasting of acquisition, editing, broadcasting, storage, and transmission, greatly improving production and broadcasting efficiency, meeting high-quality business requirements, and ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable production and broadcasting.

Low cost, safer: clean video switching, accurate video frame switching

The matrix has built-in video clean switching, which means instant switching and lossless images. It does not require double traffic, saving bandwidth resources. It does not require peripheral switching devices, simplifying the system.

High performance, more efficient: full-port full-line-speed multicast NAT, enabling thousands of 4K signal transmission

Carry over 2,000 channels of 4K ultra-high-definition uncompressed signals; on-demand address translation and extremely simple system deployment; forwarding performance does not decrease after multicast NAT, and there is zero packet loss for large traffic.
