Huawei's Hu Houkun: Continuously empowering digital economic innovation, connectivity will head in these five directions

On December 6, at the 2021 China Unicom Partner Conference, Huawei's rotating chairman Hu Houkun delivered a keynote speech entitled "Connecting the Intelligent World, Empowering the Digital Economy". He said that in the context of the current acceleration of China's digital economy, the proposal of China Unicom's new strategy is timely, and network connectivity, as the foundation of digital infrastructure, is the foundation for the development and innovation of the digital economy. Hu Houkun emphasized, "Huawei actively thinks and acts, hoping to help Unicom realize its 'big connectivity' business strategy by creating faster, broader, smarter, safer and greener connections, and continue to inject momentum into digital economic innovation."

Hu Houkun speaks at China Unicom Partner Conference

First, we need to provide faster connections. Users’ pursuit of experience is endless, which places higher demands on the network. For example, cloud XR services require a latency of no more than 10ms and a downlink rate of no less than 4Gbps to achieve an immersive experience. Since the beginning of this year, China Unicom and Huawei have carried out innovative cooperation such as "5G-Advanced" to promote the further development of "dual gigabit" networks and bring new experiences to users.

Second, we need to expand the scope of connected objects. According to Huawei's Global Industry Outlook Report, by 2030, the total number of global connections will exceed 200 billion. From life scenarios to production activities, from the ground to the air, the objects and scenarios of connection are constantly expanding, which will bring higher requirements in terms of bandwidth, latency, and space. In the face of changes, only by continuously innovating in theory, technology, and engineering can we create ubiquitous, ultra-low latency, and ultra-large bandwidth three-dimensional connections.

Third, connections must be smarter . Huawei has built an autonomous driving network and provided intelligent operation capabilities, helping China Unicom achieve network automation and intelligence in all stages of "planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization." In October this year, the "AI-based network operation and management platform" jointly built by China Unicom and Huawei won the "TM Forum Excellence Award." The innovative achievements of both parties in intelligent operations and digital transformation have been highly recognized by the industry.

Fourth, connections must be more secure and reliable . Huawei will work closely with China Unicom in security system construction, building secure networks, and innovating industry security solutions to support the full implementation of China Unicom's "big security" business, and work with all parties in the industry chain to unify understanding, share responsibilities, and build capabilities to jointly build a secure and reliable digital environment.

Fifth, connectivity must follow a low-carbon and balanced development path. Huawei is helping China Unicom to comprehensively promote energy-saving innovation at the three levels of equipment, sites, and networks, jointly develop innovative solutions, and continuously improve product energy efficiency and achieve green development through new materials, algorithms, and innovative deployment solutions.

Huawei is working with China Unicom to explore innovative solutions, help China Unicom deepen its connectivity, consolidate its development foundation, and build intelligent and comprehensive digital infrastructure in the fields of industry digitalization, smart home, computing network, new data center, IT infrastructure, etc. Hu Houkun finally said, "Huawei will support the full implementation of China Unicom's five major businesses of 'big connectivity, big computing, big data, big security and big applications', and work with industry chain partners to jointly promote the development of China's digital economy."
