The Brazilian government announced plans to achieve full 5G coverage across the country by 2029

On the 17th local time, the Brazilian government's Ministry of Communications and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) announced at a public hearing held in the House of Representatives that they plan to achieve full 5G coverage in the country by 2029. According to this plan, by 2029, 1,174 cities with more than 30,000 residents in Brazil will have more than three telecommunications companies providing 5G services. And 4,396 cities with less than 30,000 residents will have at least one telecommunications company providing 5G services.

Brazil's Deputy Minister of Communications Roberto stressed that the recent 5G frequency band auction will ensure the expansion of 4G to rural areas and roads that do not currently have the technology.

On the 5th of this month, the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency announced the completion of the auction of the fifth-generation mobile communication technology (5G) frequency band. There are four frequency bands in this tender, and the operating rights are valid for 20 years. The auction was conducted in different regions and blocks, attracting 15 telecom operators to participate in the auction.

Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency said that this round of 5G frequency band auction is expected to generate 47.2 billion reais (about 54.4 billion yuan) in economic benefits. Among them, 7.4 billion reais (about 8.5 billion yuan) will be used as government royalties, part of which will be included in the national treasury and part will be used for investment in the communications industry. The remaining proceeds will be used for supporting investments within the contract period of the winning company, such as making up for infrastructure shortcomings, promoting network technology modernization and expanding the scope of telecommunications services.
