According to Zhongguancun Online, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently released the economic operation of the communications industry in the first half of this year. The report revealed the development of China's broadband market. In the first half of the year, the total revenue of telecommunications business reached 753.3 billion yuan, an increase of 8.7% year-on-year, and the growth rate increased by 2.2 percentage points compared with the first quarter. The total volume of telecommunications business calculated at the same price as last year was 804.5 billion yuan, an increase of 28.3% year-on-year, and the growth rate increased by 0.9 percentage points compared with the first quarter.

The report pointed out that as of the end of June, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 510 million, a net increase of 26.06 million households over the end of last year. Among them, the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with access speeds of 100Mbps and above reached 466 million, accounting for 91.5% of the total number of users, an increase of 1.6 percentage points over the end of last year; the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with access speeds of 1000Mbps and above reached 14.23 million, a net increase of 7.83 million households over the end of last year, accounting for 30.1% of the net increase in fixed Internet broadband access users this year.

The report also pointed out that as of the end of June, the number of Internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 982 million, a net increase of 35.63 million over the end of last year. Among them, the number of fiber-optic access (FTTH/O) ports reached 918 million, a net increase of 37.9 million over the end of last year, and the proportion increased from 93% at the end of last year to 93.5%. Gigabit broadband is accelerating deployment, and 10G PON ports are entering a rapid construction period. The total length of optical cable lines nationwide reached 53.52 million kilometers, a net increase of 1.828 million kilometers over the end of last year. Among them, the proportion of access network optical cables, local network relay optical cables and long-distance optical cable lines was 63.5%, 34.4% and 2.1% respectively; the access network optical cables increased by 1.928 million kilometers over the end of last year, and the proportion increased by 2 percentage points year-on-year, promoting further optimization and upgrading of optical fiber networks.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on the "Dual Gigabit" Network Collaborative Development Action Plan (2021-2023)" in March. The notice pointed out that in order to implement the deployment requirements of the "Government Work Report", promote the mutual promotion of "dual gigabit" network construction, complementary application advantages, and innovative business integration, further play the important role of "dual gigabit" networks in stimulating effective investment, promoting information consumption, and assisting the digital transformation of manufacturing, and accelerate the construction of a new development pattern. That is, in three years, the "dual gigabit" network infrastructure covering urban areas and qualified townships will be basically built, and fixed and mobile networks will generally have "gigabit to the home" capabilities. Gigabit optical networks and 5G users will accelerate development, and user experience will continue to improve. High-bandwidth applications such as augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) and ultra-high-definition video will be further integrated into production and life, and typical industry gigabit application models will be demonstrated. The core technology research and development and industrial competitiveness of gigabit optical networks and 5G remain at the international advanced level, and the modernization level of the industrial chain and supply chain will steadily improve.
