5G brings three values to promote intelligent mining

At present, under the long-term goal of carbon neutrality, although new energy has received more attention, traditional energy still occupies a large volume. Including oil, coal, etc., traditional energy is not only a power generation energy, industrial power energy, civilian commodity energy and chemical raw materials with strong demand, but also an important foundation for maintaining national economic and military development. Based on this, the mining industry, as an upstream of the industrial chain, is still receiving much attention.

As we all know, my country's mining industry has always been a labor-intensive industry with a high degree of dependence on manpower. However, with the rapid decline of the demographic dividend, the continuous increase in labor costs, the enhancement of environmental awareness, and the innovation of development concepts, the disadvantages of traditional operating models have become increasingly prominent and cannot keep up with the trend of the times. In this context, in order to promote the high-quality and high-level development of the modern mining industry, the industry urgently needs to transform.

So, how to innovate? Using technologies such as artificial intelligence, robots, the Internet of Things, and big data to promote the intelligence and digitalization of the industry is undoubtedly the only way. Especially with the continuous acceleration of 5G construction and the rapid commercialization of 5G, the deployment and application of 5G networks are key tools for promoting the development of smart mines and accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the industry. Specifically, its role is mainly manifested in three aspects.

First, 5G has upgraded the intelligent inspection of mines. Through 5G, inspection robots or drones can be connected to transmit inspection data, video, and audio signals to the monitoring and command center. The characteristics of low latency, high speed, and large capacity ensure the stability, efficiency, and comprehensiveness of inspection transmission, thereby reducing the inspection's dependence on manpower, enhancing the efficiency of mine inspections, and ensuring the safety of mine operations.

Secondly, 5G simplifies the operation of mining operations. Traditionally, when using mining machinery, manual labor must be carried out in person, and personal safety cannot be guaranteed. After the application of 5G, unmanned remote operation will become a reality. Taking advantage of the high reliability, low latency and large capacity of the 5G network, people can remotely control equipment indoors to operate, which not only ensures production safety, but also reduces job requirements.

Finally, 5G enhances the collection of mine data. The key to the intelligent transformation of mines lies in data collection. With the help of the mining Internet of Things and the 5G network, wireless backhaul of hydrological, gas and other collected information can be achieved, reducing the difficulty of transmission construction and maintenance. While ensuring safety, it reduces the pressure and difficulty of operations and promotes the improvement of operating efficiency and quality. For the intelligent development of mines, 5G is the key foundation.

Based on the above three values, my country is currently accelerating the introduction of 5G into smart mines. At this stage, the number of 5G base stations in my country has exceeded 800,000, and 5G network coverage has also achieved results. The integration and development of 5G and smart mines is accelerating. However, since this is the first cooperation between the two teams, there are bound to be some problems in the integration process, and my country also needs to discover and solve them in a timely manner.

For example, in terms of base stations, we need to customize 5G base stations for mining and ensure the actual effect and value of 5G mining through private network construction; at the same time, in terms of terminals, we also need to launch 5G terminals for mining and support 5G network applications through special terminal equipment; in addition, in terms of technology, we need to ensure 5G performance. Due to the special operating environment, the stability and reliability of 5G mining are very critical. my country needs to continuously strengthen technological research and development.

<<:  Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: By 2023, the penetration rate of 5G individual users will exceed 40% and the number of users will exceed 560 million

>>:  my country's backbone network construction will be initially completed in 2020
