On June 23, according to Mobile World Live, Intel announced on Monday a partnership with Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio to jointly develop 5G technology, as the latter seeks to accelerate network transformation with the aim of providing affordable network connectivity to all Indian citizens.
Dan Rodriguez, vice president and general manager of Intel's Network Platforms Group, said at a pre-communication meeting for the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2021) in Barcelona that the two companies will cooperate on 5G radio access network and wireless core network equipment. Jio senior vice president Aayush Bhatnager pointed out that the company will also work closely with Intel in related areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and edge computing. Reliance Jio is a wholly owned subsidiary of India's Reliance Industries Ltd. Intel's venture capital arm invested $250 million last year for a minority stake in Jio. Navin Shenoy, Intel senior vice president and general manager of the Data Platform Group, said India offers a "huge" 5G opportunity and stressed that Jio is taking a "non-traditional" approach to developing the technology. |
