Three major problems facing my country's 5G base stations

At present, the development of 5G commercialization is the focus of all countries. As the foundation of 5G commercialization, the construction and deployment of 5G base stations is the top priority. After two years of hard work, my country has achieved remarkable results in 5G base stations. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, more than 710,000 5G base stations have been built in China, and it is expected that nearly 500,000 5G base stations will be built in 2021.

It can be seen that my country is now a global leader in 5G base stations, and has an advantage in 5G exploration and development. But my country cannot be overly optimistic! Because for my country's 5G base stations, although remarkable achievements have been made, they still face certain pressures. In particular, the pressure from base station construction, operation and maintenance, and promotion is hindering and affecting the implementation and popularization of 5G commercial use.

In terms of construction, electricity bills are the biggest pressure faced by operators. China Tower once revealed that the average power consumption of 5G base stations is more than three times that of 4G base stations, and the annual comprehensive electricity bill of a 5G base station is about 23,000-30,000 yuan/year. According to this calculation, in 2021, with 1.2 million base stations, operators will need to pay more than 20 billion yuan in electricity bills, which will reduce operators' enthusiasm for building stations.

In terms of operation and maintenance, in addition to the fact that electricity costs still affect the maintenance and use of 5G base stations, the increase in the number of base stations also makes maintenance more difficult. As we all know, most 5G base stations are built in places with few people and complex environments. In order to ensure the normal use of base stations, manpower is required to conduct inspections one by one, but as the number of base stations increases, the difficulty of inspections is further increased.

In addition, in terms of promotion, the public's awareness and acceptance of 5G base stations are generally low at this stage. Many people even have misunderstandings about 5G base stations, believing that they have radiation that affects health or may leak privacy, which hinders the construction of base stations and the removal of existing base stations. All of these have led to difficulties in the promotion of 5G base stations, and in turn hindered the development of 5G commercial use.

In short, the above three points determine that my country's 5G construction is far from perfect. In the future, my country's 5G commercialization and popularization will need to stand the test of time and continue to overcome difficulties!
