As a communications engineer, I am exposed to English every day. Whether you are reading documents or debugging equipment, you will encounter many English words and abbreviations. Over time, when I see some letters, I can quickly associate them with words that begin with them. It seems to have become a conditioned reflex. Today, as a veteran communications person, Xiao Zaojun will talk to you about what the letters from A to Z mean to a communications person. A The first letter is A. In the communications industry, A appears very frequently. For Xiaozaojun, when I see A, the first thing that comes to my mind is AAA, triple-A (triple means "three, three times" in English). AAA is one of the three important functions in the communication network, which stands for Authentication, Authorization and Accounting. Its importance is self-evident. In CDMA networks, there is a dedicated network element called AAA, which is responsible for the above functions. In LTE, the HSS network element is mainly responsible for these functions. In addition to AAA, A often stands for Automatic, which is a very pleasing word. It is much better than Manual and often means saving trouble and convenience. A also stands for Advanced, which is also a good word. The more advanced something is, the more it is named with an A, such as ATCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture). However, A is not always a good sign, because it also stands for Alarm. You will often see it in the network management interface, and it will make you feel overwhelmed. In the communications industry, common words that begin with A include: Access, Anonymous, Architecture, Antenna, and Acknowledgement. B When we think of the letter B, the first thing that comes to our mind is Backup. Backup is an important part of daily communication work. If you are upgrading or cutting over, you must do a good job of backup. Otherwise... In addition to Backup, there are other words represented by Back, such as Background, Backend, Backbone, Backplane, all of which are related to "back", and the corresponding one is F, Front. The next thing that comes to mind is the Base Station, which is, needless to say, one of the important components of the communication network. In the past, 2G had BTS (Base Transceiver Station) and BSC (Base Station Controller), 3G had NodeB, and now 4G LTE has eNodeB (Evolved Node B), anyway, they all have B in them. Other common words abbreviated with B include: Broadband, Bearer, Basic, Broadcast, Block, Bit, and Byte. C The first thing that comes to mind is of course Cutover. What does it mean? "Cutover"! If you don’t even know how to cut over, then you don’t need to work in communications, haha. There are many words that start with C. If the 26 letters are ranked, C is estimated to be in the top three. For example, Communication, Cell, Code, Call, Control, Connect, Command, Configuration, and Clock all start with C. For Xiaozaojun, the biggest meaning of C is CDMA, a technology for which I have devoted my precious youth and which carries too many unforgettable memories. In the past, we often said C network, which is CDMA network. C also stands for Core. Core Network is a nostalgic word. CN not only stands for China, but also stands for Core Network to me. Customer is also a common meaning of C. It should be noted that Client, although it also means customer, more often represents "client". D The first thing that comes to mind is Data, right? Yes, D stands for data, which is very important. We are doing Data Planning, Data Configuration, and Data Analysis every day, which are inseparable from Data. In addition to Data, there is Digital. We have entered the digital age from the analog age, so Digit is often seen. D also stands for Document and Description, which are very important for newcomers and they often look for them everywhere, especially Description, which is like finding a treasure. D also has an important meaning, which stands for Dynamic, and its counterpart is Static. These two words are often used when describing states. Other words starting with D include: DC (direct current), Document, Delivery, Distributed, Dial, Download, Detection, Domain, and Dual. E This is a very cool letter, why do you say that? Because it represents two cool words, Evolution and Enhancement. For example, our 4G LTE is Long Term Evolution (literally means "long-term evolution"). "eMBB", one of the three major application scenarios of 5G, is enhanced mobile broadband. Nowadays, if a manufacturer's new technology does not have an "e" in it, they are embarrassed to bring it out. In addition to the two words above, there are also words starting with E: Extended and Embedded, which are also relatively "positive" words and often represent powerful functions. In addition, E is the abbreviation of a certain manufacturer. Guess who it is? Of course, E also has "derogatory" words, such as Error. If you encounter Emergency, it will be even more painful and you will be overwhelmed. Other words starting with E include Engineer (engineer, that is, you and me), Equipment, Enterprise, Encryption, Electric, Echo, Encryption, Edge, and Environment. F What does F stand for? Of course it’s Fiber. Many concepts related to optical fiber begin with F, such as FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and FC (Fiber Channel). In addition to Fiber, F often stands for Forward, and its corresponding term is Reverse. F also stands for Fault and Failure, a letter of bad luck. People in communication will not like to see it. Other common words: Frame, Function, Frequency, Fan, Feature, Fixed, Final. G The first reaction of G is Gateway. In the communication network, there are a large number of gateways, which usually play the role of an interface and conversion, such as MGW (Media Gateway) and GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node). G also stands for Global, which is also a very cool word. For example, GSM stands for Global System For Mobile Communications, and GNSS stands for Global Satellite Navigation System. In addition to Global, there is General. In communications, it often means "general, general, or average." For example, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) Other common words: Ground, Group, Gaussian, Gigabit. H Did you immediately think of the chrysanthemum plant? In communications, H usually stands for High, such as High-speed, High-level, and High-density. In addition to that, there is Home, which does not mean “family”, but usually means “place of belonging”. For example, if you have a number in Nanjing and roam in Shanghai, then Nanjing is your home location. Usually, what we call HLR (Home Location Register) and HSS (Home Subscriber Server) mean this. There are not many other commonly used words, but they are all relatively important, including: Host, Hardware, Handover, Hybrid, and Hold. I Another very commonly used letter. Internet, Information, needless to say? And the extended IP (Internet Protocol), is seen almost every day. Words starting with "I" also include "Intelligent". Many new systems start with "I" to show their high-end style. "Interface" is also very common. I also stands for Incoming, which corresponds to Outgoing, and usually represents input and output (I/O). Other common words include Industry, Invitation, and Inventory. You mean iPhone and iPad? Well... they can be considered as communication. J I'm so tired, finally I came across an unusual one... There are very few words starting with J in the communication field. It seems that Juniper is used in the manufacturer name, and then Jumper is used in it. I can't think of any other words. JAVA is barely one of them. K Words that begin with this letter are not common. Key can also be considered a key. There is also KPI (Key Performance Indicator), a word that everyone is sensitive about and a bit annoying. In addition, Kilobyte/Kilobit (KB/Kb) also starts with K. L This is a common letter. The most common one is Link. Another one is Layer. Communication networks are either links between network element devices or layers of protocol stacks. Anyone who has worked in communications should have this experience. Common words with L include Low, which corresponds to High, and Local, which usually means local and corresponds to Remote. Other commonly used words: Logical, Location, Loss (a very annoying word, such as Loss of Signal), Least (corresponding to most), and Label. M These letters usually stand for Management and Maintenance. The OMM we often talk about is Operation & Maintenance Module. Yes, Module is also a common word. In the communications industry, Mobile is also a very representative word. Message and Media also frequently appear in work. Another is "Multi-", which is a prefix that is seen almost every day, meaning "multiple", such as Multi-service and Multi-protocol. Other common words include: Main, Maximum, Minimum, and Mode. N Of course it’s Network! One of the most frequently appearing words. But it seems that apart from network, there are not many words starting with N. National, Negative, Node... Oh, I almost forgot, the popular NB-IoT is Narrow Band IoT. "Non-" is often used as a prefix, meaning "non", for example, "Non-Real". In addition, N is also the abbreviation of some manufacturers. Nokia, and Nortel, remember? O In addition to the word Operation mentioned above, many words starting with O are related to "light". Optical means "optical". The fiber mentioned above refers more to the object of optical fiber. Optical mainly refers to "optical". Operator refers to the operator. China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom are all Operators. Then there is ON/OFF, which often has derivative words, such as online/offline. Open and Over also appear frequently, as well as words with them as prefixes, such as overload. Other words that start with O include: Original, Orthogonal, and Offset. P There are many common words, especially nouns, such as Project, Program, Process, Precedence, Protocol, Performance, Product, Packet, Power, etc. It seems like there are so many, I can’t even begin to list them all… Public and Private are also common words in communications, such as PSTN, Public Switched Telephone Network. "Pre-" is also a commonly used prefix, such as PrePaid, Pre-Paging, and Pre-research. Primary is also very common and is often used together with Secondary, such as Primary Link. Q When you think of words that start with Q, you will quickly think of Quantity and Quality. These two words are very similar, and Xiaozao often makes the mistake, haha. QA stands for Quality Assurance, while QoS stands for Quality of Service. There don't seem to be many others. The ones I can think of are Quarter and Queue. The QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) that we often see are both Quadrature (product), and I still can't pronounce this word correctly. R There are still many words that start with R. The first one that comes to mind is Reboot. Reset, Restart, both are restarts, haha. Picture picture picture "Re" is a very common prefix. Many words begin with it, which means "repeat, again". As mentioned before, Remote means "far end". The common L/R in communication is not Left/Right, but Local/Remote. Everyone should remember this and don't make a fool of themselves. R on the wireless side usually stands for Radio, such as RRM (Radio Resource Management), RRC (Radio Resource Control), and RRU (Remote Radio Unit). In the communication business process, there are two important Rs, Request and Response. In the signaling process, we often see that one network element sends a Req message to another network element, and the other party replies with a Res message. Sometimes the sending and receiving also use the word Send/Receive. Other common words include: Routing, Repeat, Relay, Resource, Return, Roaming, and Redundancy. S There are so many words that start with S. Even if it is not ranked first, it is definitely ranked second. A bunch of words popped up in my mind: Service, System, Software, Signal, Solution, Source, Standard, Security, Supplement, Silicon, Session, Synchronous, Stand-alone, Specification, Status, Subscriber, Single, Shared, Switch... I have collapsed and vomited blood... pictures pictures pictures T The first thing that comes to mind should be Telephone or Telecom, right? T is a representative symbol of communication, which stands for transfer. Transfer, Transmission, Transport, all are related to transmission. In addition, T also represents time, such as Timeslot. There is another word starting with T that is often seen in communications, which is Test. Test is often used in acceptance testing and business verification. Other common words beginning with T include: Tunnel, Temporary, Trunk, Topology, Terminal, and Traffic. U I quickly thought of User, for example, UA (User Agent), User-Defined, and User Equipment. In addition to User, there are words that begin with the prefix "Un-", which stands for "not, non, nothing", such as Unacknowdged, Unstructured, and Unrecognized. U also has an "Up" prefix, such as Uplink (uplink), Upload (upload), corresponding to Downlink (downlink) and Download (download). Oh, yes, there is also an Update, which is often encountered. Other words include: Universal, Usage, Unique, Unified, and Unit. V The most common word that begins with V is Very, such as VIP (very important people). Then there is Voice, which is also a common word. For example, VoLTE and VoIP, the V here stands for Voice. Then there is Virtual, which also appears frequently, such as Virtual Circuit and Virtual Path. Other common words that begin with V include: Video, Visit, Vendor, and Voltage. W When I see W, I think of WCDMA. In fact, W often means Wide, broad, wide. WCDMA is Wideband-CDMA. We call WAN, Wide Area Network, wide area network. Apart from Wide, words starting with W do not appear very frequently, including Wireless, Wavelength, WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), etc. X I thought for a long time but couldn't think of any word starting with X. However, Xmanager and Xshell (both are remote control software) are often used. X is often pronounced as Cross, and is sometimes used to refer to something in general or to mean "unknown", such as xDSL and FTTx (a combination of FTTH, FTTB, and FTTC). Y Yes, haha, that's basically it. Z ZTE! No explanation! Pictures |
