The impact of blockchain technology on the future world and data centers

As organizations gain a deeper understanding of the value of blockchain, the technology will be more widely adopted. IDC predicts that by 2021, annual global spending on blockchain solutions will reach $9.7 billion.

According to statistics from the CCID Blockchain Research Institute, there were 328 blockchain application projects implemented in my country in 2019, of which 96 were financial blockchain application projects, accounting for 29%, the highest proportion among application projects implemented in the same period, and a year-on-year increase of 41% compared with 2018.

So, what impact will blockchain technology have on data centers? What applications will it have?

Save data center costs

Blockchain-based management systems will improve transparency and save costs in operations. Use blockchain technology to track and link IT assets, power, cooling and space resources, and work order management system data, share ledger systems, and reduce human operational errors through rule-based automation. Facing data centers, which are large energy consumers, blockchain can achieve energy-saving layout by supervising all equipment and lines in data centers. With the help of blockchain's distributed architecture, anti-tampering and collaborative consensus characteristics, energy-saving information from all links in the data center can be centralized, breaking data silos and building an energy-saving trusted data monitoring and collection network covering the entire data center, so that energy consumption monitoring can be collected and processed in stages, production links, and supply chains, thereby achieving energy conservation and emission reduction in data centers. With blockchain, all data in the data center can be transparent, eliminating hidden costs, improving management efficiency, and significantly reducing operation and maintenance costs.

Protect data reliably and securely

Blockchains were initially used only to protect cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but they were soon also used to provide data security outside the financial sector. Data centers that store sensitive data are the most suitable for blockchain technology because the encryption method used by blockchain can distribute data among multiple servers. This method makes blockchain difficult to hack because each block usually only contains a cryptographic hash function of the previous block. Big data is mainly about managing massive amounts of data, and the core of blockchain is to achieve high security and reliability of data without the involvement of centralized intermediaries.

Intelligent Data Center Management

In an era of edge computing, booming IoT, exponential data growth, and constant pressure to reduce latency, blockchain technology can help data centers keep pace while maintaining data security. Perhaps in the future, DCIM or DMaaS tools can rely on distributed ledger technology to assist more data center sites and hosting tenants in implementing better capacity management. The data collated through blockchain will be of great value, and it will also facilitate AI learning and form efficient algorithms, thereby achieving self-management of data centers, reducing human intervention, and improving data center operational efficiency.

We say that the Internet solves the problem of information circulation, while blockchain solves the problem of trust between people and between institutions. Blockchain technology is mysterious and makes many complicated things efficient and simple. At present, my country has blossomed in blockchain applications, but most of them remain on the surface. There is still a lot worth exploring and studying. In the next two to three years, it is expected that blockchain technology will mature at a "rocket-like" speed.

Both my country and foreign countries are actively promoting the development of blockchain technology. In the next 5 to 10 years, we will see that blockchain technology is widely used in daily life.
