Base station construction progress exceeds expectations. What changes has 5G brought?

"The progress of 5G base station construction in my country has exceeded expectations. As of the end of July, the cumulative number of terminal connections has reached 88 million." Xin Guobin, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said in an interview with reporters recently that as the "leader" of new infrastructure, 5G development has accelerated since this year.

Once the roads are built, the cars will start running. Smart manufacturing is being upgraded, smart logistics is being applied more widely, and smart services are everywhere... 5G and other digital technologies are penetrating into more fields, and all walks of life are changing.

The change of cities has made the word "smart" more prominent

Image recognition, automatic verification, intelligent shipment... In Jiaxing, Zhejiang, at a high temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, relying on the "intelligent unmanned warehouse" system built by Jiaxing Power Supply Company, 80 sets of indoor cold shrink terminals and 300 meters of wiring cables are automatically shipped out of the warehouse, and the entire process is "unmanned" operation.

The 5G network, which represents higher speed, greater capacity and lower latency, brings changes to urban travel, consumption and services through full connection and integration. Smart warehousing is one of them.

Looking around today, the "health code" provides a simple, effective and intelligent service for personnel communication and economic and trade exchanges, and smart traffic lights have alleviated urban congestion to a certain extent... New infrastructure such as 5G has accelerated the digital transformation of the industry. Since the beginning of this year, with the upgrade and expansion of the network, more and more applications have been rolled out, adding a smart atmosphere to urban life.

"Recently, my country has opened more than 15,000 new 5G base stations on average each week, and 197 5G terminals have obtained network access licenses. The potential of 5G in stabilizing investment, promoting consumption, and assisting upgrades has been further revealed." Wen Ku, director of the Information and Communications Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that in the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will give full play to the driving role of 5G in the development of smart cities, and continuously improve supporting policies in 5G network construction, security assurance, application promotion, etc., so that 5G can give rise to more urban changes.

Industrial changes are not just about production lines

5G construction includes hardware such as chips and devices, as well as software such as operating systems and cloud platforms. 5G, combined with related technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence, has driven many industries and laid the foundation for digital transformation in many fields.

Since the beginning of this year, driven by 5G and guided by demand, the pace of industrial digitalization has accelerated, and many manufacturing companies have expanded into high-tech service fields.

Lenovo Group recently announced its first quarter results for the 20/21 fiscal year, with net profit up 31% year-on-year. "This growth was mainly driven by the cloud service market. We were able to seize the opportunity, thanks to a more solid network foundation." Lenovo Group Chairman Yang Yuanqing believes that as the foundations of various software and hardware become more solid, new services are becoming an important direction for the transformation of manufacturing companies.

The boundaries of business operations are expanding, and industrial chain relationships are also being reshaped. More and more large, medium and small enterprises are exploring integrated development, and the supply chain network is becoming more dense. In the first half of the year, the main engine position of industrial digitalization in the digital economy was further consolidated.

"The application of new technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence has enhanced the resilience of the industrial chain and improved quality and efficiency." Liu Duo, director of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, said that the next step will be to make great efforts in digital infrastructure, digital ecology and digital collaboration to lay a solid foundation for the digitalization of the industry.
