5G is here. Join hands with the industry to welcome 5G large-scale commercial use

[Shenzhen, China, April 17, 2019] "5G is developing faster than expected, and Huawei is ready to work with the industry to welcome the arrival of large-scale commercial use of 5G." Gan Bin, Vice President of Huawei's 5G Product Line, told analysts and media at the 5G Media Roundtable at Huawei's 2019 Analyst Conference on April 17. Facing the upcoming large-scale commercial use of 5G, how does Huawei view the industry development trend, and how will Huawei's 5G solutions help operators quickly commercialize 5G?

The industry is developing rapidly, and 2019 will be the first year of 5G commercialization. From the perspective of user development, based on the scale of 500 million users, it took 10 years in the 3G era, 5 years in the 4G era, and 3 years for 5G. In 2019, GSMA officially raised the number of 5G connections to 1.4 billion in 2025, an increase of 200 million compared with the forecast in 2018, and the demand for 5G connections is even more vigorous.

From the perspective of 5G end-to-end readiness, the 3GPP R15 standard has been basically completed, focusing on eMBB services; the climax of 5G spectrum auction/allocation is also coming, and more than 50 countries and regions will issue 5G-related spectrum this year; it is expected that 60 5G commercial networks will be deployed worldwide in 2019; mainstream chip manufacturers have released 5G commercial chips, and Huawei has completed IoDT testing with these chip manufacturers. The four elements of standards, spectrum, network and chips are complete, laying the foundation for 5G commercial use.

What is particularly important is that 5G networks and terminals are maturing simultaneously, and the industry is expected to release more than 40 5G terminals and mobile phones in 2019. At the same time, Huawei and its partners jointly demonstrated various types of 5G terminals at the conference.

Huawei is leading in 5G commercialization and has become the preferred partner for 5G commercialization. So far, Huawei has signed 40 commercial contracts worldwide and shipped more than 70,000 5G base stations worldwide. Huawei has helped South Korean operator LG U+ build the world's largest commercial 5G network and successfully provided 5G services to consumers. It is also working with multiple operators around the world to accelerate the construction of 5G commercialization.

Huawei and China Telecom successfully implemented a multi-party video call on 5G smartphones in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by deploying C-band 5G macro base stations at the conference site. The four parties of the call were located in Shenzhen Telecom Double Innovation Park, Shenzhen OCT InterContinental Hotel (Huawei Analyst Conference site), Guangzhou "Little Waist" and Zhuhai Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The successful demonstration of this service also shows that the large-scale deployment of China's 5G network is accelerating.

The full range of simplified 5G product solutions remains ahead and supports the rapid commercial use of 5G in all scenarios. Huawei's full range of simplified 5G products and solutions, including macro sites, pole sites, indoor digitalization and other forms, meet the commercial deployment of 5G networks in all scenarios. Massive MIMO (multiple antennas) is a key native technology of 5G. Huawei's 5G multi-antenna AAU products are absolutely leading. The "dual 200" (200w power, 200MHz spectrum bandwidth) AAU is one year ahead of the industry. It can not only solve the problem of operator spectrum discontinuity, but also support the operator's spectrum of more than 100M to evolve to 5G in the future. At the same time, it can support 4/5G common mode, so that operators can build 4/5G in one step and benefit both networks. China Mobile has used Huawei's 5G AAU products in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and other places to achieve 2.6G frequency band 4/5G dual-mode co-construction. Huawei's multi-antenna AAU is easy to install, which greatly shortens the construction period of a single site by 35%, helping operators to quickly build networks and gain first-mover advantages.

Support NSA & SA converged networking, NSA and SA terminals coexist harmoniously on the same network. Huawei's 5G base stations can support both NSA and SA architectures, and the cloud core network can also support 4G EPC and 5G Core at the same time; therefore, it can support NSA and SA converged networking, and NSA and SA terminals can access the same 5G network at the same time without users noticing. Huawei has successfully conducted 5G multi-site contiguous network verification of NSA and SA converged networking in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places with operators. NSA or SA is no longer a dilemma for operators. On the same 5G network, the two architectures can coexist harmoniously. In the future, NSA base stations can smoothly evolve to SA through software upgrades.

Huawei is ready to work with the industry to welcome the large-scale commercial use of 5G. After ten years of hard work, Huawei has continued to invest in 5G, leading in innovation, making the greatest contribution to standards, with the highest level of self-developed chips, the fastest, most comprehensive and most advanced products, the most comprehensive architecture solutions, the most mature commercial capabilities, and the fastest industry incubation. Huawei is ready and will work with the industry to welcome the accelerated arrival of large-scale commercial use of 5G.
