Wireless charging has three constraints on market demand

Wireless charging technology has been around for 128 years. The technology has been revived in modern times, but it was restarted 5 years ago. Why is it still not popular? Why is there no product? Is it the technology or the market? Is it the quantity, the price or the demand?

All three factors

As early as 1890, physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla had already conducted wireless power transmission experiments and achieved AC power generation. Logically speaking, a product with such a long history should not be overwhelmed by the times, so that wireless charging has not yet made its mark.

I believe that the reason why wireless technology has not been fully popularized is mainly due to the constraints of technology, market and demand.

Whether it is good or bad, whether there is demand determines whether the technology will last long. In the ocean of technology in the past two years, wireless charging technology is often forgotten. How far away is the plug if you are in the office? If you are not in the office, how can you use wireless charging? Don’t we have power banks? In the eyes of most consumers, the current "wired charging" is okay, and wireless charging is expensive, so it is not considered for the time being.

Just a price hike gimmick

Wireless charging technology is generally divided into two factions: low-power wireless charging and high-power wireless charging. It is easy to understand that, as the name suggests, low-power wireless charging often uses electromagnetic induction, such as wireless charging technology on mobile devices; while high-power wireless charging technology is mostly used in electric vehicles, large power supply equipment, etc.

Nowadays, both the mobile device market and the automotive and power supply equipment fields have launched products that support wireless charging. Faced with such a scenario, consumers said: the current wireless charging is no different from the old mobile phone charger at home, and now it seems to be just a gimmick of price increase.

In the technological ocean of the past two years, wireless charging technology is often habitually forgotten.

The only difficulty is the efficiency of charging

At this stage, it seems so. In 2018, most smartphones launched on the market support wireless charging technology, but wireless charging technology will not become the main feature promoted because the technology itself has encountered a bottleneck.

Mo Ke, a senior analyst at Zhenli Research, said: "The development of wireless charging technology itself is not difficult, but how to improve the charging efficiency is difficult, because the energy carried by Wi-Fi waves themselves is very small."

It can be seen that wireless charging is slow and limited. Now, a smartphone can be charged with a data cable in one hour, but wireless charging may take more than an hour and a half. So, the technology itself is not developing well, so why should ordinary people buy it?

Marketing out of sync

Wireless charging technology requires technical support such as radio frequency technology, materials, heat insulation, and shielding, and the power chip link and solution design function are basically monopolized by foreign countries. It can be understood that if foreign mobile phones do not promote wireless charging, there will be no wireless charging technology on the market.

Generally, when new technologies appear in the market, they will not become popular immediately, because most consumers will choose to wait and see rather than consume immediately. In other words, if the wireless charging technology is not good, consumers will pass it up without hesitation.

Wireless charging technology still has a future

Although wireless charging has inherent problems such as asynchronous market promotion and immature technology, these two punches cannot kill it.

At present, whether it is Apple, Samsung or domestic brands, most mobile device manufacturers have equipped their flagship phones with wireless charging functions, and some public places also provide wireless charging power supplies. Judging from the market in the past two years, wireless charging technology will be the trend of future mobile phone development.

At the same time, mobile device manufacturers are also developing wireless charging technology. I believe that after solving the charging efficiency problem and improving the cost-effectiveness of the equipment, everyone will still be willing to accept more convenient wireless charging.

Summarize

Is there any social demand for wireless charging technology? Is wireless charging necessary for charging indoors or at home? Is it necessary to bring wireless charging when charging outside? It has been tested for 128 years. Does it still take time?
