Library business development encounters bottleneck

1. Insufficient network performance affects usage efficiency

As an important storage and sharing platform for the school's scientific research data, the library meets the reading needs of all teachers and students in the school. Before the network transformation, the on-site speed test showed that the wired network access performance was less than 100 megabits, and the daily office network was stuck. In the future, with the continuous development of multimedia technology, the library will also provide online playback and downloading of multimedia resources such as high-definition video and audio. In addition, during critical periods such as final exams, project submissions, and scientific research to obtain experimental data, the library's original network can no longer meet the access needs of a large number of users, and the construction and service development of multimedia resources are limited.

2. Difficulty in expanding wired information points

With the development of digital libraries, more and more academic resources are provided in electronic form, and teachers and students need to access these resources through the Internet. The library has added various types of self-service borrowing and query, information publishing and other equipment to facilitate teachers and students to access and download resources. In addition to traditional computer terminals, students also need to use mobile devices to access library network resources. In order to ensure the development of these services, a large number of small switches, routers and other equipment have been added. The wired access lines are messy, the network is prone to loops, and problems have a wide impact and are difficult to locate.

As a place for office, study and research, the library needs to provide a quiet environment. In the early days of network construction, traditional 24-port switch wall-mounted cabinets were deployed in the corridor, and the equipment was cooled by fans. As the equipment age increases, the noise is obvious in the quiet environment, affecting the reading environment of the library and the daily work of teachers.

4. Multiple buildings with dispersed equipment rooms make active operation and maintenance difficult

The library has five main buildings, with many scattered weak current rooms and many active network devices. It is necessary to consider various operation and maintenance issues such as power supply and heat dissipation, and there are certain safety hazards. Once there is a problem with the weak current room network, the impact is large, which brings great challenges to the library's network operation and maintenance work.

The century-old library, built on the foundation stone of etheric light, is given new vitality

Referring to the experience of the optical network construction and transformation plans of many colleges of the university, combined with the actual network usage needs of the library, an all-optical network pilot construction was carried out on some of the existing office access networks, and a high-speed, stable and intelligent all-optical network was tailored for the university library and its branches.

The core layer reuses the existing Ruijie RG- S8612E core switch to interconnect the campus network information center. The project uses nearly 18,000 kilometers of optical fiber for wiring, realizing the optical fiber interconnection of all network devices:

At the access layer, each area deploys Ruijie RG -SF2920 series 8- port/16-port POE optical access switches to provide nearby network access to all network information points;

At the aggregation layer, each of areas A , B , C , D , and E selects a computer room as the regional passive optical aggregation room, and "passive transparent aggregation equipment" is deployed in the weak current room to realize the optical fiber aggregation of each access area.

At the core layer, an RG -S7620 series color optical super-aggregation switch is deployed in the core computer room to connect to the library's core switch. Through wavelength division multiplexing technology, optical fiber convergence of all equipment in the library's main building is achieved, saving trunk optical fiber resources.

Through Ethernet color light technology, a large Layer 2 Ethernet network environment with exclusive 10 Gigabit access bandwidth is provided for the main library, which greatly improves the quality of network access and network coverage, allowing all areas to enjoy high-speed and stable network connections, laying a solid network foundation for the school library's information planning and construction.

Network access bandwidth performance increased 10 times

After the optical network was built, the measured access bandwidth increased from 90Mbps to 960Mbps, an increase of nearly 10 times. This upgrade ensures that every user in the library can enjoy high-speed network connection, providing high-bandwidth support for daily office work, resource access and other services.

At the same time, the 25G /40G backbone bandwidth can be easily and smoothly upgraded by upgrading and replacing the optical modules at both ends in the future , which facilitates the implementation of future network expansion and reduces expansion costs.

The weak current room on each floor is passive, and the computer room is managed in a safe and standardized manner

Before the renovation, there were many weak-current rooms on the floors of each area of ​​the library, and the network equipment, power supply equipment, network cables, power cables, optical fibers and other lines in the weak-current rooms were intricate. The Ethernet color light solution was used to optimize the network architecture, and the "color light passive transparent convergence" achieved optical fiber convergence in each area, without the need for power supply UPS, air conditioners and other equipment, truly realizing the passivity of the weak-current room. By bringing optical fiber into the room, the bridge space is saved by 90%, and the passive optical convergence is equipped with clear interconnection labels, which greatly simplifies the later network operation and maintenance management and facilitates fault location. It reduces the cost of operation and maintenance and improves the reliability of the overall network operation of the library.

Leaf-level silence, creating a quiet working environment

The RG- SF2920 series optical access switch is compact and exquisite, with a brand-new shark fin, die-cast integrated shell and fanless design, which increases the heat dissipation area by 37% and has a maximum noise level of 20 decibels. The weak current information box can be flexibly deployed in various scenes such as library columns, service desks, and corridors, and can operate without perception in the quiet environment of the library, creating a quieter and more comfortable learning and office environment for teachers and students.
