In early December 2017, CommScope held a 20th anniversary celebration of the CommScope Communications Technology Factory in Suzhou. Not only did CommScope's global, North Asia, and Greater China executives come to celebrate, but the Suzhou CommScope factory was also open to mainstream media nationwide. Everyone visited the CommScope factory and witnessed CommScope's technical strength in rapidly responding to the growing global bandwidth demand, as well as the production and management process of base station antennas, microwave antennas, twisted pair copper cables, and distributed antenna systems, and gained a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of CommScope's products and solutions.

The reporter learned that CommScope's first factory in Suzhou was originally established and put into operation by Andrew Telecom in 1997. Subsequently, CommScope established its second factory in Suzhou in 2004. Currently, the two factories have a total of about 4,000 employees. In addition, CommScope's extensive layout in China also includes R&D bases in Shanghai and Suzhou, as well as local offices in many major cities in China. For 20 years, CommScope's multiple factories in China have been committed to producing and providing infrastructure solutions to support wireless, telecommunications, broadband and enterprise network operators in China and around the world.
Rooted in China for 20 years, helping customers upgrade to digitalization
[[213205]] Shi Zhihong, Vice President of Operations, CommScope China
Shi Zhihong, Vice President of Operations for CommScope China, said that whether it is optical or copper connection, wired or wireless, CommScope has cutting-edge solutions to offer, and can be regarded as the largest and most comprehensive one-stop communication industry infrastructure solution service provider and leader. To support the business of enterprises and network operators, CommScope has been strengthening research and development and is committed to innovating network infrastructure solutions to achieve fast and reliable mass data transmission.
"Reliable and seamless access to the internet is more important than ever. CommScope is well-positioned to meet the growth in bandwidth demand through the convergence of network technologies, providing solutions in the areas of outdoor cell tower infrastructure, small base stations, distributed antenna systems, fiber connectivity and data center infrastructure," said Shi Zhihong.
[[213206]] Chris Story, Senior Vice President of Global Operations, CommScope
Chris Story is CommScope's senior vice president of global operations. He also came to China to participate in the celebration. He revealed that China's contribution to CommScope reached 20-30%, so the company attaches great importance to the Chinese market. He said that in the manufacturing industry, the general demand of global factories now emphasizes the speed of factory production process response and production flexibility. This is undoubtedly a major trend in the future, and of course it is also an important manifestation of the factory's digitalization and automation upgrade. Chris Story also emphasized that many people believe that the promotion of automation will lead to the disappearance or reduction of jobs. In fact, it is not the case. On the one hand, automation can more effectively help improve the training of workers, and on the other hand, it can also speed up the efficiency and speed of production. "Therefore, automation should be linked to increasing speed, not to reducing jobs."
Why does Chris emphasize that speed is so important? He explained that from the perspective of demand, the future trend is that the requirements for interconnection and interoperability will become higher and higher, and the requirements for bandwidth will also become higher and higher.
Optimize 4G before embracing 5G
[[213207]] Ben Cardwell, Senior Vice President, CommScope Mobility Solutions
Ben Cardwell, senior vice president of CommScope Mobile Solutions, also agreed with Chris's point of view. He told reporters that in the 5G era, China will be an important leading force. CommScope is committed to helping operator customers smoothly transition to 5G networks, and the largest platform is in China.
When talking about the application of 5G networks in the future, Ben believes that there will be three basic applications that will become the mainstream of 5G: the first is the application of enhanced broadband, such as telemedicine, which requires more bandwidth resources. CommScope can help them meet application needs in video streaming and other aspects; the second is the application of the Internet of Things. In the 5G era, more device interconnection services will need to be provided. Watches, refrigerators, cars and other devices will all be interconnected; the third is ultra-low latency. Ben revealed that the current 4G network latency is 20 to 30 milliseconds, and through the 5G network, the latency can be reduced to less than 5 milliseconds, so that truly high-precision application needs can be met, such as autonomous driving, robot factories, etc.
Of course, 5G is a big game, and its construction cannot be achieved overnight. Therefore, before deploying 5G networks, operators must first ensure that the 4G network is highly efficient and optimized. CommScope is helping operators better improve 4G networks in three ways.
Ben explained that CommScope currently supports operators in three main ways: first, helping operators achieve maximization of LTE networks by using densification technology to build small cell base stations, thereby achieving maximization of indoor coverage in buildings; second, by using virtualization technology to push network transmission to the edge, ultra-low latency can be achieved; third, optimizing cellular sites, so as to create a better network. "In short, we are very proud of our long-term development in China. We have built an excellent team and strong capabilities here through years of development, including in the Suzhou factory or other facilities in China. We now have strong capabilities in China to serve customers around the world," Ben summarized.

From 1997 to 2017, CommScope has been settled in Suzhou Industrial Park for 20 years. For the growth and development of China's IT infrastructure, CommScope is not just a comprehensive cabling manufacturer. It has accompanied China's IT industry in the transition from copper cables to optical fibers, from data centers to smart buildings, and from wired to wireless. In the era of IT intelligence, it has made a gorgeous turn, becoming both a participant and a promoter, leaving an indelible mark in this era with its innovative products, and helping the development of China's new era of cloud networks. After an interview and visit, the reporter applauded the growth of China's IT infrastructure and praised companies like CommScope! |
