June 27, 2017 - Cisco today announced that its global ecosystem of customers, developers and partners has responded enthusiastically to the company’s vision for a new era of networking. Unveiled last week, Cisco’s next-generation network is the most significant innovation in enterprise networking history, with the ability to detect intent, avoid threats and continuously learn.
Today, network engineers are managing hundreds of devices, and it is expected that they will manage one million devices in 2020. Against this backdrop, Cisco's new generation of networks, the result of years of research and development, will reshape the future of networking. Currently, companies are managing their networks through traditional IT processes, but traditional processes will not work in the new era. Cisco is committed to building a fully intelligent system that will have continuous self-learning, self-adjustment, and self-protection capabilities to optimize network operations and defend against evolving network threats.
“Cisco is building a fully intelligent system that automates at the edge and uses machine learning and analytics at a foundational level,” said Scott Harrell, senior vice president of product management, Cisco Enterprise Networking Group. “Intent-based networking represents a paradigm shift in the industry and ushers in a new era of networking. We are excited to see our global ecosystem of 3 million network engineers, 60,000 partners and 450,000 developers join us in shaping the future of networking.”
75 leading companies and organizations around the world are taking the lead in trialing Cisco's next-generation network solutions, including Jade University of Applied Sciences, NASA, Newcastle Hospital, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Scentsy, UZ Leuven and Wipro.
Ecosystem Response to Intent-Based Networking Is Strong
To drive industry adoption of intent-based networking solutions, Cisco today launched new training and developer programs for 28,000 network professionals at CiscoLive, the company's annual user conference. Attendees will learn about the impact of intent-based networking on their organizations and begin learning the skills needed for the new era of networking.
"Network Engineers: Today, 80-95% of network operations are done manually. Intent-based networking automates routine tasks and translates business intent into network configuration, allowing network IT teams to focus on more strategic initiatives for the business. To help network engineers advance, Cisco is offering new skills in its learning programs. This fall, Cisco will launch two new training courses on Software Defined Access (SD-Access) for network engineers and application developers, building on its existing DNA training portfolio and Network Programmability training and certification. Application Developers: This shift to open, programmable networks will create a wide range of new opportunities for application developers. As networks become more codified and applications and infrastructure interact more closely, application developers will have a new platform to innovate on. The new DNA Developer Center will provide the Cisco DevNet community of more than 450,000 developers with powerful tools to build applications directly for the network and create smarter software.
Channel Partners: The shift from hardware-centric to software-centric networking will drive Cisco’s channel partners to strengthen their networking practices, learn new skills, and pursue new business opportunities. Cisco offers programs, incentives, and tools to help partners build networking practices that integrate software, security, automation, and analytics to deliver greater benefits to their customers.
