According to IHS Markit, the global cloud services market for IT infrastructure and applications is expected to grow 23% between 2016 and 2020, reaching $286 billion in revenue[1]. Driven by this opportunity, new cloud business models are emerging, and network operators are facing many challenges in expanding network capacity, optimizing network resources, and simplifying network operations. In addition, single-vendor products also hinder operators from adapting to the speed of cloud services. Juniper Networks' Open Cloud Interconnect solution is designed to help data center operators overcome these challenges with a proven, flexible solution that ensures openness, scalability, security, and simplified operations of data center interconnect (DCI) networks through a range of innovations from the IP to the photonic layer.

Juniper Networks' newly released Open Cloud Interconnect solution uses industry-leading technologies in routing, switching, packet optics, network management, and software-defined networking (SDN), providing customers with a flexible and open data center network architecture strategy that can meet the many requirements of public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid multi-cloud environments. Juniper Networks' Open Cloud Interconnect solution is also compatible with the recently released Unite Cloud architecture and software-defined secure network (SDSN) platform, which can support a range of network architectures, allowing cloud providers, service providers, and large enterprises to design, optimize, and control the corresponding data center interconnect (DCI) network according to the needs of each specific business.

Juniper's Open Cloud Interconnect solution includes a range of technologies from across the Juniper portfolio, such as MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, QFX Series Switches, and Contrail, that can be used to create customized data center interconnect (DCI) solutions that meet customers' business objectives.

News Highlights:

Scale up next-generation data centers and telco clouds: New coherent DWDM lines for QFX10000 and BTI7800 deliver exceptional capacity and reach levels with smaller physical footprint. Features include:

o The QFX10000 coherent DWDM line card integrates six ports with up to 200 Gbps per port and up to 1.2 Tbps of fiber capacity. With the coherent DWDM line card, QFX10000 customers can combine Data Center Interconnect (DCI)-optimized Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN), Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN), and MacSec security with highly scalable, low-power coherent DWDM.

o UFM6 line for BTI 7800 series is a new muxponder/transponder solution that integrates 10 configurable 10GE/100GE client ports and 2 coherent DWDM ports, each port transmission speed up to 200 Gbps. In addition, UFM6 also supports SD-FEC, which can achieve performance improvement in metro, regional and long-haul spans up to 2000 kilometers, and can achieve full interoperability with Juniper and third-party coherent DWDM lines.

Integrated Management: By leveraging open application programming interfaces to provide maximum network visibility and control, Juniper Networks has expanded the capabilities of proNX Service Manager to now manage coherent optical interfaces across Juniper Networks MX and PTX Series routers, QFX Series switches, and the BTI Series packet-optical portfolio. In addition, a YANG-based integration between proNX Service Manager and Juniper Networks’ NorthStar Controller provides even greater levels of network visibility and multi-layer control.

Professional Services: Leveraging its extensive technical knowledge and expertise in network design, deployment, and support, Juniper Networks offers a range of customized consulting and training services for planning, deploying, and operating Open Cloud Interconnect solutions.

Availability: The UFM6 line card and updated ProNX Service Manager software are available now. The coherent DWDM line card for the QFX10000 is expected to be available in the second quarter.

Juniper Networks will demonstrate these new solutions at the Fiber Optic Conference & Exhibition in Los Angeles, March 21-23, in booth 3637.
