IoT drives SD-WAN adoption The Internet of Things creates billions of new data endpoints through devices or systems, continuously passing more and more data across enterprise networks. A fundamental requirement for the success of any IoT project is the availability and access of real-time data to all stakeholders.
The goals of simplified network deployment, centralized control and real-time application delivery are critical for CIOs to choose software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN) over traditional network technologies for their IoT-based applications. For example, Augmedix, a leading healthcare technology provider, chose global SD-WAN to eliminate latency issues with the technology. This helps doctors improve their work efficiency by using Google Glass to communicate with patients around the world in real time and record their health conditions. Without SD-WAN, Augmedix services cannot update health records in real time, preventing doctors from seeing more patients and paying attention to their needs. Telecom operators will integrate SD-WAN functions to provide comprehensive end-to-end network solutions Some telcos have moved away from providing bandwidth alone to partnering with SD-WAN companies with intelligent routing and central network management. This approach still retains the problems of today's networks: the inflexibility of multiprotocol label translation, the unreliability of the public Internet, poor application performance, and the cost and complexity of having to manage multiple vendors. As SD-WAN adoption increases, enterprises will seek integrated and managed solutions for painless end-to-end connectivity to deliver globally distributed application performance. SD-WAN technology will include all network connection endpoints Public and private cloud instances are now as important as applications in corporate data centers. More and more employees will work remotely via mobile devices. In 2017, SD-WAN solutions will improve coverage across all connected endpoints, which will enable CIOs to optimize their applications for more efficient business operations. |
