The operational direction of data centers in the "Internet +" era

In the era of "Internet +", the rapid development of China's economy has had a certain impact on all walks of life. Similarly, the operation and development direction of data centers have also changed in the "Internet +" environment.

Data Center Planning and Operation in the "Internet +" Era

With the explosion of data and the application of big data and cloud computing, the dependence on data centers is also increasing. Looking back at the development history of data centers, ten years ago, large-scale, high-level data centers had just begun to emerge, and everyone focused on building data centers with high safety factors and T4-level data centers. But now, what is really needed in the "Internet +" era is a data center that can be deployed quickly and flexibly adapted. When communicating with users, users are most concerned about when they can get back the money they have invested and when they can see results. In fact, users will eventually find that the faster the use of cloud computing, the faster the response speed, and the faster the Internet thinking of data centers, the more profitable they can truly become. Therefore, the data center and the building can be decoupled. The construction of a high-level data center starts with land construction, from planning and design to land construction engineering, then data center construction and mechanical and electrical equipment installation and commissioning, and finally enters operation and maintenance. However, after adopting the concept of decoupling, as long as the basic plant environment meets the basic data center requirements, such as load-bearing and power requirements, the data center can be built very quickly using methods such as micro-modules.

At present, the demand for data centers is increasing, but energy consumption is also increasing, so the requirements for PUE, TCO, and green energy saving are also getting higher and higher. Therefore, we can build a truly green and environmentally friendly data center and reduce electricity costs by combining wind power, solar energy, and even biogas power generation. Because the electricity cost of data centers is very high, accounting for 30%-50% of the total operating cost, only by reducing the electricity cost can the smooth operation of the data center be truly achieved.

The future development direction of data centers

There is no bubble in the data center industry. From the perspective of supply and demand, there is still a lot of room for growth, and it will explode quickly in the next few years. In recent years, capital has rapidly entered the data center. Although the entry of capital has caused an impact on the industry, the natural profit-seeking nature of capital can confirm the growth space of demand from another perspective.

The fundamental factors that determine the healthy development of data centers are forward-looking investment estimates, reasonable data center design, and stable and reliable data center operation and maintenance. The three are interdependent. From the perspective of operation and maintenance, the current operation and maintenance capabilities of the data center industry are still relatively weak. The operation and maintenance of traditional IDCs, especially small IDCs, are still at a relatively low level; while some large third-party data centers have relatively strong operation and maintenance capabilities and can basically achieve stable and reliable operation. However, from the perspective of operation and maintenance development, it is necessary to use rational means and software automation management to reduce labor costs, improve management capabilities, and feed back problems encountered in operation and maintenance into data center planning and design, redefine data center design and investment, and form a closed loop to truly achieve the healthy development of data centers.

Under the development trend of widespread application of cloud computing and big data and the background of the "Internet +" era, on the premise of better grasping the changing characteristics and trends of data centers, we will achieve the green, efficient and flexible goals of data centers through innovation in concepts, technologies and solutions, and ultimately serve a new economic development ecology.
