It is estimated that 5G will directly drive economic output of 1.45 trillion yuan in 2022

On January 8, 2023, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released the "White Paper on China's 5G Development and Economic and Social Impact (2022)".

The white paper points out that 5G's enabling and driving role in economic and social development continues to increase. It is estimated that in 2022, 5G will directly drive a total economic output of 1.45 trillion yuan and directly drive an economic added value of about 392.9 billion yuan, an increase of 12% and 31% respectively over 2021, and indirectly drive a total output of about 3.49 trillion yuan and an economic added value of about 1.27 trillion yuan.

In terms of 5G development, my country's 5G development is gradually getting better. my country's 5G network has basically completed continuous outdoor coverage in urban and rural areas. As of the end of November 2022, my country has opened a total of 2.287 million 5G base stations, accounting for more than 60% of the total number of 5G base stations in the world. The scale of my country's 5G personal users continues to expand, and the user penetration rate has exceeded 30%. As of the end of November 2022, my country's 5G user penetration rate reached 32.2%, an increase of 10.6 percentage points from the end of 2021, and the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 542 million. my country's 5G industry applications are developing in depth, and 5G and different industry applications are characterized by tiered penetration.

In terms of industrial development, 5G has promoted the steady growth of the digital industry. 5G has promoted the continuous growth of the information service business of operators. From January to November 2022, the three basic telecommunications companies completed mobile data traffic business revenue of 588.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%, accounting for 40.6% of telecommunications business revenue, driving the growth of telecommunications business revenue by 0.2 percentage points. 5G has driven the growth of network equipment revenue and the iterative upgrade of consumer-grade terminal equipment, stabilizing the basic revenue of manufacturing companies, and at the same time promoting manufacturing companies to build end-to-end 5G application solution supply capabilities and transform into industry digital transformation solution providers. In addition, 5G is combined with digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing to continuously explore new application scenarios in the fields of industry, agriculture, commerce, social governance, public services, culture and entertainment, helping to stimulate the potential of industrial digitalization and improve people's quality of life.

The white paper states that the next three to five years will be a strategic opportunity period and a critical development period for the commercialization and large-scale application of 5G in my country. We should follow the laws of industrial development, be guided by market demand, pool the strength of all parties in the industry, continuously improve network supply capabilities, strengthen the continuous evolution of technical standards, enhance the ability to match technology industry supply and demand, promote the innovative development of personal and industry applications, and build a symbiotic, common, complete and robust integrated ecosystem.
