Huawei's Hu Houkun: Connecting to create a better intelligent world

On December 20, the 2022 China Unicom Partner Conference with the theme of "Digital Connection of Thousands of Banks, Intelligent Connection of Tens of Thousands of Homes" was held in the form of online live broadcast. At the main summit, Huawei's rotating chairman Hu Houkun delivered a keynote speech on "Connecting to Create a Better Intelligent World". He said that in the past year, Huawei and China Unicom have worked together to deepen and strengthen connections, continuously innovate in five aspects: speed, breadth, intelligence, security and green, and constantly stimulate new vitality.

Huawei's Rotating Chairman Hu Houkun delivered a keynote speech titled "Connecting for a Better Intelligent World"

First, there are speed connections, from Gigabit to 10 Gigabit.

Hu Houkun said that the first thing to do is to provide faster connections. Huawei helped Beijing Unicom build the world's largest 5G 200MHz large-bandwidth network. Whether on the main roads of the city or in the alleys, users can enjoy the ultimate experience of 1.8Gbps downlink peak. Facing the needs of future new services, Huawei and industry partners jointly proposed the 5.5G industry vision, committed to promoting broadband connections for individuals, families, and enterprises to the "30 Gigabit era" of 10 Gigabit wireless, 10 Gigabit fiber, and 10 Gigabit WiFi.

Second, there is breadth of connectivity, from communication to perception.

Connections are constantly breaking boundaries. From human connection to IoT, innovative technologies such as RedCap enable massive connections; from campus to workshop, minimalist networking solutions penetrate into core production links; from land to sea, 5G high-speed and ultra-long-distance coverage improves the efficiency and safety of offshore operations.

In the 5.5G era, the deep integration of communication and perception has opened up a business space that goes beyond traditional connections. China Unicom and Huawei jointly lead the IMT2020 Synaesthesia Working Group, guide international industry standards, and carry out a pilot project of synaesthesia-integrated vehicle-road collaborative innovation.

Third, smarter connections, from automatic to self-intelligence.

As network complexity continues to increase, network operation and maintenance and user experience management face new challenges. Huawei provides consumers and industry users with zero-wait, zero-touch, zero-failure, and zero-risk network services by building a self-planning, self-configuring, self-repairing, and self-optimizing self-intelligent network. At the same time, the computing network based on IPv6+ and all-optical base technology enables the network to flexibly dispatch computing power, storage, applications and other resources. Huawei helps Hebei Unicom build the "No. 1 IPv6+ Province" and empowers the digital development of the industry based on IPv6+ private networks.

Fourth, more secure connections, from availability to trustworthiness.

Hu Houkun emphasized that the inherent trust of connections is a reliable line of defense for digital infrastructure. Huawei and China Unicom jointly defined a three-layer trusted network architecture that includes 5G inherent security, including equipment, network, and control, to help China Unicom build a 169 trusted backbone network and an efficient active defense system to ensure the security of digital transformation.

Fifth, greener connections, from energy consumption to energy efficiency.

At present, green development has become a global consensus. Huawei systematically innovates solutions through the three dimensions of "green site-green network-green data center" to improve the energy efficiency of the entire network. Taking Beijing Unicom as an example, after the renovation of the old equipment in the Wangjing transmission room, the cabinet space was greatly reduced, saving about 260,000 kWh of electricity each year, which is equivalent to planting 11,000 trees.

Sixth, warm connections ensure that no one is left behind in the digital world.

"Connection must not only be fast, but also warm." Hu Houkun said that China's 5G network construction leads the world, but there are still some remote areas that lack high-quality connections and cannot enjoy the convenience brought by digitalization. Huawei helps China Unicom build 900MHz base stations on a large scale, thereby further improving the 5G coverage quality and user experience in rural and remote areas. With the 5G network, herders on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia can graze remotely with a mobile phone and see a doctor without leaving home; rural teachers in Guizhou can discuss teaching experiences online with famous teachers in Beijing, Shanghai and other places, so that more rural children can get better educational resources.

As the foundation of digital infrastructure, connectivity is the basis for the development and innovation of the digital economy. "It starts with connectivity, but it goes beyond connectivity." Hu Houkun finally emphasized that Huawei will continue to work with China Unicom to continue to innovate, fully unleash the unlimited potential of connectivity, and create a better intelligent world.
