5G automatic account opening: 4G users do not need to change cards or numbers. They can enjoy rich 5G services immediately after changing to a 5G mobile phone without leaving home.

Currently, 2/3/4G user data is stored in the triple-convergence HSS. If a 4G user wants to use 5G services, he needs to open an account in 5G and migrate the user data to HSS/UDM. 5G users' 2/3/4/5G/IMS data will be integrated and stored in HSS/UDM. If the system cannot process it automatically, you need to go to the business hall to activate the 5G service.

Users activate 5G through business halls, operator websites, apps and other manual methods. This is a traditional way to open an account. After all, this is how everyone operated when they switched to 4G phones.

This account opening method has two major disadvantages:

• Disadvantage 1: Inconvenient for end users, requiring users to take the initiative to activate 5G services
• Disadvantage 2: It is not conducive for operators to promote 5G services and develop new businesses

The 5G automatic account opening solution is a transformation of the network side and the IT side. When a user connects to the 5G network, UDM detects that the user has not yet activated 5G. UDM notifies BOSS, and BOSS performs 5G service activation operations to UDM. This solution effectively solves the initial construction capacity problem of operators and achieves accurate and real-time 5G automatic activation.

To cope with various number allocation scenarios and needs, the 5G automatic account opening solution has different processing methods.

Today I will introduce two common methods:

5G automatic account opening method 1

5G services are directly activated and data is migrated without user authentication. This is applicable to scenarios where there is neither 2/3/4G user data nor authentication data in the newly built 5G UDM.

When the user changes to a 5G SA terminal and registers for the first time on the 5G network to obtain authentication data, the 5G automatic account opening process is triggered to complete the 5G account opening and data migration.

UDM triggers the 5G account opening notification function to BOSS during the user 5G authentication process. BOSS is responsible for the migration of 4G and VoLTE of existing users, as well as IMS AS data and the activation of 5G.

(Data migration can be done through BOSS or UDM. This article uses BOSS migration as an example.)

5G automatic account opening method 2

After user authentication, 5G services are activated and data is migrated. This can be divided into two scenarios.

Scene 1

The newly built 5G UDM contains neither 2/3/4G user data nor authentication data.

When a user changes to a 5G SA terminal, the user registers on the 5G network for the first time. During the authentication process, UDM obtains authentication data from the existing HSS and completes 5G authentication. When the user obtains slice information, the 5G automatic account opening process is triggered to complete the 5G account opening and data migration.

UDM triggers the reverse 5G account opening notification function to BOSS during the user's 5G registration process. BOSS is responsible for the migration of 4G and VoLTE of existing users, as well as IMS AS data and the activation of 5G.

Scene 2

There is no 2/3/4G user data in the newly created 5G UDM, but user authentication data is preset.

When a user changes to a 5G SA terminal and registers on the 5G network for the first time, UDM completes 5G authentication based on 4G authentication data. When the user obtains slice information, the 5G automatic account opening process is triggered to complete the 5G account opening and existing network data migration.

UDM triggers the reverse 5G account opening notification function to BOSS during the user's 5G registration process. BOSS is responsible for the migration of 4G and VoLTE of existing users, as well as IMS AS data and the activation of 5G.
