Huawei's Hu Houkun: Make Hongmeng and Euler into important social resources

On November 20, the 2021 China 5G+ Industrial Internet Conference was held in Wuhan. At the conference, Huawei's rotating chairman Hu Houkun attended the conference and delivered a keynote speech entitled "Laying a solid foundation and creating a new digital landscape". Hu Houkun believes that " 5G+ Industrial Internet is enabling the digital transformation of thousands of industries. Data-driven is the key. To achieve data acquisition, fast calculation and good use, connecting more devices, lowering the threshold of AI, and developing industrial software are the key investment areas at this stage. "

First, we need to connect more devices. Currently, due to the high cost, long cycle, and difficulty in integration and analysis of industrial equipment data collection, the networking rate of industrial equipment in my country is only 23%, which has become a bottleneck for digital transformation. Hu Houkun pointed out that we can start from solving the standardization of data collection and improving network capabilities. On the one hand, all parties should formulate unified data specifications and promote the standardization of industrial protocols to reduce the difficulty of equipment networking and benefit the majority of enterprises.

By establishing the standard protocol for Huawei's IoT equipment, Huawei has completed the adaptation of 38 types of industrial protocols. In the southern factory, 70,000 sets of industrial equipment have been connected to the Internet. This set of IoT standards has also been applied to Huawei's manufacturing partners, effectively improving the efficiency of cross-enterprise collaboration. On the other hand, connection technologies such as 5G, F5G all-optical connection and IPv6+ are also continuously integrating and innovating with industry applications to meet the needs of low latency, high reliability and high security in the industrial field.

Secondly, lower the threshold for AI. AI is the key to making good use of data, but the current popularity of AI in the industry faces challenges such as fragmented application development and high threshold for development talent. Pre-trained large models can help companies improve AI development efficiency and promote the "handmade workshop" development model to the "industrialized" model.

In the UAV power line intelligent inspection scenario of State Grid Chongqing Yongchuan Power Supply Company, relying on Huawei Pangu big model, a pre-trained model for the power industry was generated, which achieved rapid iteration with less manual annotation, and increased the sample screening efficiency by about 30 times; at the same time, one model can adapt to hundreds of defects and replace more than 20 original small models, greatly reducing the model maintenance cost, the average model accuracy increased by 18%, and the model development cost reduced by 90%, truly achieving scalable replicability.

Large models cannot be separated from the support of large computing power. In May this year, Wuhan launched an artificial intelligence computing center, which has reached 200P flops computing power and launched corresponding large models for remote sensing, multimodal and other fields. These computing powers and models will be provided to various research institutions, enterprises and developers in a more inclusive way, which will help lower the threshold for artificial intelligence applications and accelerate the digital transformation of the industry.

Finally, Hu Houkun emphasized the importance of developing industrial software. In the context of the industry's digital transformation calling for a new industrial software system, he called for "the whole industry and society to collaborate. The government can set up a platform, inject policies, funds, and credibility, guide the key roles and links of the industrial chain to complement each other's advantages, and form an industrial synergy. As the demand side, industry leading companies can work with professional software developers and service providers in various fields to jointly build a new industrial software ecosystem."

Driven by the digital needs of leading companies in the electronics, automotive, equipment, home appliances, construction and other industries, Huawei has joined forces with more than 100 industrial equipment and industrial software companies to build industrial software clouds in different segments based on Huawei Cloud.

In addition, Huawei is also building two operating systems, one is HarmonyOS for the end side, and the other is Euler for the digital infrastructure side. Hu Houkun said, "Huawei has opened these two operating systems to provide a foundation for partners to build scenario-based commercial operating systems."

5G+Industrial Internet is the key force to enable intelligent upgrades in thousands of industries. Hu Houkun emphasized that all industries are seizing the opportunity of industrial upgrading, increasing investment, consolidating the foundation, and jointly creating a new digital landscape. Huawei is working with partners to quickly create solutions that fully meet the needs of the industry and promote rapid scale replication in all industries. He said, "Huawei will always adhere to the principle of 'doing what it can and not doing what it cannot', focus on the ICT field in which it is good, and with an active and open attitude, fully support good partners and customers to build and create together to accelerate the digitalization process of the industry."
