CMMI stands for Capability Maturity Model Integration, which is an internationally recognized standard for measuring the maturity and process normativeness of software development processes. It was founded by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University in the United States. In the past decade, it has had a profound impact on the global software industry. CMMI has five levels, which represent the five levels of capability maturity of software companies. From low to high, the accuracy of software development production plans increases step by step, the unit project production cycle shortens step by step, and the unit project cost decreases step by step. According to SEI statistics, software companies that have passed the assessment have improved their ability to estimate and control projects by about 40% to 50%; productivity has increased by 10% to 20%, and the error rate of software products has decreased by more than 1/3.

For a software company, reaching CMMI2 means that it has basically entered large-scale development, has the basic structure and methods of a modern software company, and has the ability to undertake outsourcing projects. CMMI3 assessment requires the grasp of large software integration, including the integration of the overall architecture. Generally speaking, the higher the level of CMMI certification, the easier it is to gain the trust of users, and the stronger the competitiveness in the international and domestic markets. Therefore, whether or not a company can pass the CMMI certification has become an important symbol for measuring the engineering development capabilities of software companies internationally. CMMI level 5 is the most difficult and highest level assessment of software capability maturity in the world today. Passing this assessment means that the software capability maturity of a software company has reached the highest level.
