According to South Korea's Ministry of ICT, the total number of 5G users reached 16.47 million in June, accounting for about 23% of the country's 71.63 million mobile users.

The latest data shows that this number has increased from 15.84 million in May. South Korea first commercialized 5G in April 2019.

SK Telecom has the most 5G users (7.7 million), followed by KT (5 million) and LG Uplus (3.7 million).

Subscriptions for 5G phones are expected to grow at a faster pace later this year as Samsung Electronics launches a new foldable 5G phone and Apple releases a new iPhone.

"As Samsung and Apple launch flagship phones in the second half of this year, the monthly net addition of 5G users is expected to rise to around 900,000," Lee Seung-woong, an analyst at eBEST Investment & Securities, said in a report.
