China Unicom has opened 478,000 5G base stations

As an important part of my country's "new infrastructure" plan, the construction progress of 5G base stations has always attracted much attention from the general public. Recently, according to the Securities Times, Chen Zhongyue, general manager of China Unicom, revealed that the company has currently opened a total of 478,000 5G base stations, and the 5G network covers all urban areas above the prefecture level and the core urban areas of developed county towns across the country.

He also said that the company is working hard to strengthen network construction, adhere to the principle of "promoting use through construction and promoting construction through use", and further promote network co-construction and sharing. Through co-construction and sharing, the company has doubled the progress, coverage, bandwidth and speed.

In the 5G frequency band allocated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Telecom got the medium-frequency 3.5GHz band (3400MHz-3500MHz), and China Unicom got the 3500MHz-3600MHz band. Both are n78 bands and are continuous, so the two companies decided to jointly build a 5G network.

Li Zhengmao, general manager of China Telecom, said earlier that by the end of July this year, China Telecom and China Unicom's 5G shared base stations had achieved basic continuous outdoor 5G signal coverage in urban areas of cities above the prefecture level and developed county towns across the country, as well as key coverage in general county towns and townships. He expects that by the end of this year, the scale of 5G shared base stations will exceed 700,000.
