China has opened nearly one million 5G base stations, and China Mobile is almost caught up

According to the latest data, the three major operators have built more than 978,000 5G base stations in total.

In January this year, there were 718,000 seats, and in May this year, there were 819,000 seats. Now, in just two months, more than 150,000 seats have sprung up. It is no exaggeration to say that they have sprung up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain.

On July 24-25, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a national on-site meeting and conducted research on the large-scale development of 5G industry applications in Shenzhen and Dongguan, Guangdong.

Chen Zhongyue, general manager of China Unicom, said that a total of 478,000 5G base stations have been put into operation , and the 5G network covers all urban areas above the prefecture level and the core urban areas of developed county towns across the country. Through joint construction and sharing, the progress, coverage, bandwidth and speed have been doubled.

Li Zhengmao, general manager of China Telecom, said that by the end of July 2021, there were 478,000 5G shared base stations . The third phase of the project has been launched, and it is expected that by the end of this year, the scale of 5G shared base stations will exceed 700,000.

Dong Xin, general manager of China Mobile, said that China Mobile has currently opened more than 500,000 5G base stations , developed more than 250 million 5G package customers and more than 120 million network customers, expanded more than 200 industry-leading demonstration projects and more than 4,000 5G commercialization projects, and laid out nine major industry platforms.

It is said that China Mobile will promote multi-frequency coordination, strengthen cloud-network coordination, and strengthen cloud-network coordination in 5G network construction. It will forge a 2.6GHz, 4.9GHz, and 700MHz multi-frequency three-dimensional network, and by the end of the year, there will be more than 700,000 5G base stations, which is expected to account for more than 1/3 of the global 5G base station scale, and basically achieve good coverage of cities, county towns, key towns, and key areas across the country.

According to previous data, as of the end of June, the number of 5G terminal connections in China was about 365 million. According to the first quarter financial reports of 2021 released by the three major operators, China Mobile had 189 million 5G users, China Unicom had 91.85 million 5G users, and China Telecom had 110 million 5G users.
