The capital Sofia, the cities of Burgas and Varna, and several other large cities and seaside resorts are among the first locations to receive 5G services. The 5G network will expand rapidly in Bulgaria, and the company said it plans to become the leader in 5G coverage in Bulgaria by mid-2022.

Prior to Bulgaria's 5G spectrum auction, which ended in April 2021, Bulgaria Telecom had only conducted 5G trials, while rivals Vivacom and A1 launched 5G services using temporary spectrum bands.

The April auction involving the 3.6GHz band raised $8.1 million, with Vivacom acquiring the 3.7-3.8GHz band for 4.6 million levs, A1 acquiring the 3.6-3.7GHz band for 4.7 million levs, and Telenor Bulgaria acquiring the 3.5–3.6GHz band for 4.1 million levs.

In the same month, Bulgaria Telecom launched a 5G-focused information and training campaign, hoping to provide end users with detailed information on the benefits of 5G and answer their questions about the technology. The campaign includes a knowledge center on the company's website, where the latest materials such as articles, video demonstrations and expert opinions will be published. The operator also allows users to ask 5G-related questions via email or the company's official social media accounts.
