4G investment has been frozen. China Telecom: It will take 3-4 years before you can use 4G and 5G with confidence

5G exploded in China in 2020. Have you changed your mobile phones? Currently, the four major operators are actively developing 5G, but it will take time for ordinary consumers to upgrade to 5G. China Telecom said that it will still take 3-4 years to go from 4G to 5G.

At a parallel sub-forum of the China Urban Digital Economy Forum 2020, Chen Zhihong, deputy general manager of China Telecom Shanghai Company, said that the three operators have basically frozen their investment in 4G networks, and new investments may all be made in 5G.

Chen Zhihong mentioned that the replacement cycle from 4G to 5G is getting longer and longer, and people basically change their phones every 30 months. It will take at least 3 to 4 years for us to replace users' 4G phones with 5G.

After freezing 4G investment, can the 4G network still be used? Chen Zhihong said that within five years, the 4G network will not be withdrawn and there will be no large blind spots, so users can use 4G and 5G with confidence.

Not long ago, Wen Ku, spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said in an interview that the goal we set at the beginning of the year was to have 5G coverage in all cities and counties, which has been achieved. This year, approximately 580,000 new 5G base stations have been added, promoting the joint construction and sharing of 330,000 5G base stations.

From January to November this year, the domestic market's 5G mobile phone shipments reached 144 million units, accounting for 51.4% of the total share. At the same time, the number of 5G terminal connections has exceeded 200 million.
