Is 5G a tool for some companies to defraud subsidies or is it a real demand?

Recently, major mobile phone manufacturers have released 5G mobile phones, such as Huawei, vivo, Xiaomi, etc., and have launched their own 5G flagships. Some people may say that the current 4G speed is enough for chatting on WeChat, shopping on Taobao, and watching Douyin. Why do we still need to develop 5G technology? Is 5G a false demand? Is it a vent for some companies or organizations to make money?

Is 4G really fast enough?

Our misunderstanding of 5G may come from media propaganda. Whether it is on TV, the Internet, or on the radio, the advantages of 5G we receive can be summed up in one word: fast! However, everyone does not know what the use of fast is? Even for most people, the current 4G is actually fast enough, and it is more than enough to watch Blu-ray videos online. However, I don’t know if you have noticed that if we go to places with a lot of people, such as shopping malls, train stations, or crowded places on the road in traffic jams, we will find that the network will become more stuck. This is because the bandwidth of each 4G base station is limited, and the traffic that can be carried is limited. Once there are multiple people using it at the same time, the network speed will be divided among many people, and the average network speed may not be enough. For individuals, 5G may not be able to increase the network speed for you, but when there are many people, everyone can share a little more network speed, which is the true meaning of 5G speed.

We cannot predict the future

We all know that the first computer was born in the United States. At that time, it was mainly used for military calculations. In everyone's opinion, only the country needs such professional computing equipment, and ordinary users don't need it at all. Even Watson, the general manager of IBM, believed that only 5 computers were needed in the world, and ordinary people didn't need them at all. Fortunately, his son had a different view from him and saw the potential of computer commercialization. So IBM vigorously developed computers. Soon, American Airlines took the lead in using IBM computers to develop a booking system, which greatly improved the efficiency of the company. All walks of life began to use computers.

Of course, IBM also has its limitations. When IBM became the world's largest computer manufacturer, it believed that computers were only needed by commercial companies. Ordinary people did not need such professional equipment. So, the story of HP came up again. We are always blinded by the needs of the moment. It is difficult for us to predict what will happen in the future. Maybe 5G does not seem to be needed now, but it does not mean that it will not be needed in the future.

Consumers don’t know what they want

Apple's legendary founder Steve Jobs once said that consumers don't know what they need until we bring out our products. But when Apple released its first touch-screen phone, many people were wondering, what's the use of a phone without a keyboard? It's not as good as a computer for surfing the Internet, not as good as a TV for watching videos, and not as good as a professional game console for playing games. Nokia itself probably didn't expect that it would be defeated by such a gimmicky phone several years later. It's not that users don't have needs, but they don't know what they want. Just like if you ask a coachman, he will only tell you that he wants a faster horse, not a car. Only when you put a mature car in front of him, he will know the advantages of a car over a carriage.

Summarize

Whether 5G is a false demand, I believe everyone has already understood. Indeed, there are many commercial factors behind 5G. But looking at history, in the 3G era and the 4G era, which one did not redefine our lifestyle? I believe that in the near future, 5G will develop rapidly, and more companies will launch new products to change our lives.
