200M broadband speed still can't be increased. It turns out that these points are not done correctly.

As early as last year's World Telecommunication Day event on May 17, Beijing Unicom announced a free speed increase, with the original 100M users getting a free speed increase to 200M, and the original 200M users getting a free speed increase to 300M. Almost a year has passed, and many people still don't know that their broadband has been upgraded, whether it's friends around or online. Some friends also said that their broadband has been upgraded, but why hasn't the speed increased?

After testing it at home using the professional Internet speed test software Speedtest, my friends found that the speed was still the original 100M. After my actual experience, it is really not easy to really use this 200M broadband.

To use 200M broadband, you need to pass four levels

To truly use 200M broadband, there are four factors to consider.

  • ***, for FTTH (fiber to the home) users, is the optical modem at home a gigabit optical modem? For FTTB (fiber to the building) users, is the switch in the computer room in the building a gigabit switch?
  • Second, is the router at home a gigabit wireless router? This refers to whether the WAN port and LAN port on the router are gigabit ports.
  • Third, is the network cable at home Category 5 or above? Especially for users of FTTB access, it is very likely that the network cable inside the wall does not meet the standards, resulting in the inability to experience 200M broadband.
  • Fourth, whether the terminal device at home supports 5GHz WiFi. Only in the 5GHz band can the maximum network speed of 200M broadband be achieved.

If any of the above four points is not met, then the home broadband speed cannot be increased to 200M. What do you think? Do you think it is a scam after reading this? No one tells users these things!

Gigabit optical modem

Let’s discuss with you how to solve the above four problems.

For the first problem, we can go to the operator's business hall to replace the Gigabit optical modem. But at present, the replacement is not very smooth and will charge a fee of 300 yuan.

After filing a complaint with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the business hall manager will promise to resolve the issue. But don't withdraw the complaint easily at this time, because when I went to the business hall, I was asked to pay 188 yuan before the replacement, or I had to wait about three months to get a free Gigabit optical modem.

The issue will be resolved only after communicating with the business hall manager again. There is no rush to withdraw the lawsuit at this time.

The second problem is easy to solve. You can buy a "dual gigabit" wireless router on an e-commerce website. It should be noted that some wireless routers have gigabit WAN ports but 100M LAN ports, so be careful to distinguish them.

The third problem is not difficult either. You can just replace the Category 5e or higher network cables. If your home is being renovated, you might as well directly deploy Category 5e or higher network cables during the water and electricity renovation to prepare for the future. After all, the cables are in the wall, and it will be troublesome to upgrade them later.

The fourth question is that most devices are now equipped with dual-band wireless network cards that support 802.11ac wireless technology. When we surf the Internet at home, we try to choose the SSID with a 5GHz suffix in the WiFi name to connect. However, the 5GHz frequency band has poor wall penetration and will be severely attenuated when used over long distances.

After the speed increase, the supporting facilities of operators are not perfect

Although the policy of increasing speed and reducing fees is ongoing, the operators have not clearly informed users how to achieve 200M speeds on the user side after the broadband speed is increased. Only when users call the business hall for consultation will the staff tell you the specific conditions for using 200M broadband.

When users really call the operator's customer service, they are often told that they need to pay 300 yuan for the "optical modem". What about the free speed increase? Why is it another 300 yuan? When the broadband was installed, the optical modem also collected a deposit! If you want to solve the problem, you have to file a complaint on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's complaint platform, and the operator will solve the problem in a friendly manner.

Operators need to strengthen their support for user services after broadband speed increases. At least they should inform users of the conditions that their devices must meet in order to experience broadband speeds above 200M. This is the obligation of operators.

Conclusion:

The policy of free broadband speed increase has brought benefits to users. However, in the specific implementation, operators still lack service awareness. The lack of service awareness has resulted in users being unable to enjoy the fastest Internet speed even though the speed has been increased. What is the meaning of the free speed increase policy? This is a question that operators need to consider carefully.
