10 ways to completely solve wireless AP failures

Wireless AP devices are used to centrally connect all wireless nodes and manage them centrally. Of course, general wireless APs also provide a wired Ethernet interface for connecting to wired networks, workstations, and routing devices. Wireless APs play a vital role in wireless networks. They are equivalent to a relay that connects all nodes. Below we will introduce 10 ways to quickly troubleshoot wireless AP problems.

1. The wireless connection rate drops. Wireless network equipment can intelligently adjust the transmission rate to adapt to changes in wireless signal strength and ensure smooth wireless network operation. However, if the network connection speed is lower than 2Mb/s for a period of time, it means that the network may have a problem. You can perform the following operations to restore the original transmission rate:

1) Check whether the power saving mode of the wireless network card is turned on. When the power saving mode is used, the transmission power of the wireless network card will be greatly reduced, resulting in a weakened wireless signal, thus affecting the transmission rate of the wireless network.

2) Check if there are any obstructions between wireless devices. If there are obstructions between wireless network cards or between wireless network cards and wireless AP, especially metal obstructions, the transmission of wireless signals will be seriously affected. It is recommended to place the wireless AP at a higher position in the room so that it can see the wireless network card.

3) Check if there are other interfering devices. Microwave ovens, cordless phones and other devices with frequencies close to the wireless network will cause significant interference to wireless transmission, resulting in a decrease in communication rate. Most microwave ovens use channels 7 to 11 of the 14 channels on the 2.4GHz band, so for wireless devices using the 802.11b protocol, just fix the communication channel to 14 (the last channel).

2. The wireless network cannot receive data

If everything works fine when connecting the wireless AP to the wireless router, and the Internet connection sharing of the wireless network can be achieved, it means that there is no problem with the hardware and settings of the wireless AP. Since data cannot be received, it means that the connection with the network cannot be established correctly. The cause of the failure may be in the connection between the wireless AP and the switch. If the switch supports intelligent ports, it can determine the device connected to the other end and automatically complete the port mode switching. Otherwise, the specified jumper should be used to connect the wireless AP and the switch. Normally, the connection between network devices should use a crossover cable. Therefore, it is recommended to use a crossover cable to connect the wireless AP and the switch to test whether the fault is solved.

3. Wireless AP cannot connect too many devices

Although theoretically, a wireless AP or wireless router can support 256 Wi-Fi connections at the same time. However, from practical experience, once more than 10 clients use the same access point, its performance will quickly deteriorate. Wireless APs and wireless routers are very similar to hubs in a sense, and bandwidth is also shared by all access users. Therefore, as the number of access users increases, the available bandwidth decreases rapidly, resulting in a significant drop in network transmission rate. In addition, the performance of wireless APs and wireless routers is limited. When handling concurrent access by multiple users at the same time, the delay will become very large. The following methods can be used to solve this problem:

1) Configure another wireless AP, set the two APs to different channels (such as one uses channel 1 and the other uses channel 5), and use a crossover cable to connect them directly, or use a switch to interconnect them.

2) Lock each network card to a designated access point. After configuring a wireless AP, a wireless roaming network will be formed. The wireless network card roams from one access point to another and then locks on the access point with the strongest signal strength. If there are multiple access points in an environment and there are more than two comparable signal strengths, the wireless network card will constantly switch back and forth between different access points, greatly reducing the performance of the network. Locking the wireless network card to a fixed access point can eliminate the phenomenon of switching back and forth between access points; increase security so that unauthorized wireless network cards cannot use wireless APs; and prevent a wireless AP from connecting to too many wireless clients.

4. The computer cannot communicate with the wireless network If the wireless network card shows that it is working properly, but the data receiving and sending values ​​are 0, you can take the following measures:

5. Unstable wireless network transmission rate

If the wireless network is installed and the network communication is basically normal, but the data transmission speed is sometimes fast and sometimes slow, this is because the wireless devices are closely related to the environment such as distance and interference. They can automatically adjust the speed according to the environment, so the speed change is normal. The simplest thing is that the transmission speed will decrease when the distance is far. Generally, the wireless access device AP can be placed in the center of the wireless LAN device group, so that all wireless terminals will not be too far away.

6. The wireless network card shows that it only sends but does not receive

If the wireless AP is set correctly, other people in the office can receive data through wireless, and the computer can access the Internet through the wired network, but the data received through the wireless network is always 0. Check the wireless network properties and find that the IP address and subnet mask are not normal values. This indicates that the network card is not connected to the wireless network and has not obtained the IP address information from the wireless AP.

The cause of this failure is related to the wireless network settings. Different wireless networks use different SSIDs and WEP encryption. Therefore, this problem may be caused by modifying the network settings. The solution is to refresh and set up the wireless AP again and modify the WEP encryption.

7. Laptop cannot access wireless network

Use SVA wireless AP and wireless network card to build a wireless network. SVA wireless client can access the wireless network normally, but IBM laptop built-in wireless network card cannot establish a wireless connection.

This is because the default SSID and WEP encryption of wireless products from the same manufacturer are exactly the same, while the SSIDs of different manufacturers are different. Therefore, except for Windows XP, other operating systems must install the wireless client and modify the SSID (note the uppercase and lowercase) and WEP password of the IBM wireless network. It should be noted that the SSID and wireless connection mode of the wireless network card should also be checked in the "Device Manager".

8. The communication rate between wireless APs is low

The maximum distance of wireless AP bridging is about 150m. Two APs often fail to connect at this distance. Generally, this problem can be solved by setting up an external gain antenna, but the cost is high. Another method is to install two wireless APs on the outdoor wall and use the two walls as reflectors to enhance the radiation waves in front. Use aluminum-plastic panels as basin-shaped containers between the wireless AP and the wall for protection. It is not only beautiful, but also solves the problem of waterproofing and sun protection, and also plays a good reflective role. The connection rate after processing can be as high as 11Mb/s, and there will be no more disconnection.

9. The wireless AP is not in the right position, resulting in Internet access failure

If the company's office building has 6 floors, and two wireless APs are used, one on the first floor and one on the third floor, the Internet access effect is not good. You can take measures to place two wireless APs on the second floor and the fourth floor to achieve wireless coverage of the entire office building. The two APs are connected to the switch through a wired connection, and then connected to the Internet through a broadband router.

10. The wireless signal weakens after the wireless AP is moved

When the wireless AP in the office that was functioning normally was moved next to the filing cabinet, the wireless signal weakened a lot and the transmission rate also dropped significantly. The cause of this failure was the multipath problem. When watching TV with a horn antenna in the past, there would be some ghost images on the screen of some channels. These ghost images are called multipath. Similarly, after the wireless signal is bounced by nearby objects, it reaches the receiver at different points in time, resulting in multipath. For example, a wireless client is placed in a room, and there is an access point in this room. When the access point sends a signal, the signal will spread out from all directions and reach the wireless client. However, the wireless signal will also bounce off other objects and then reach the wireless client through a turning path. This means that the wireless client actually receives the signal twice or more.

It is almost impossible to eliminate multipath signals in a wireless network, so you can only reduce the multipath phenomenon as much as possible. Try not to place metal objects near the access point or wireless client.
