Huawei's Liang Hua: Give machines intelligence and services a platform

On August 23, Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei, attended the opening ceremony of the first China International Intelligent Industry Expo and delivered a keynote speech, sharing his thoughts on intelligence and digitalization. Liang Hua said that since the industrial revolution, human society has greatly improved production efficiency by "giving production machines", but after more than 200 years of continuous development, the way of relying solely on machines to improve human society's production efficiency has encountered bottlenecks, and many problems with customer service experience and corporate operational efficiency are difficult to solve through machines. In Liang Hua's view, "this requires us to give machines new engines: give machines intelligence, so that machines have language, vision, logical analysis, data processing, physical movement and other capabilities, and use intelligent machines to further release the potential of production and manufacturing, especially in the service industry."

Liang Hua also said that by "giving services a platform", digital technology and digital platforms can help enterprises establish data-driven operating systems, build digital production and digital business models, and significantly improve operational efficiency, reliability and predictive capabilities. In the process of "giving services a platform", all industries should be enabled in an intelligent and platform-based way to achieve business transformation from product value-added in the manufacturing link to service value-added in the operation link, rather than simply selling single-point technology or individual products.

Liang Hua shared Huawei's artificial intelligence strategy and practices. "Huawei focuses on ICT infrastructure and smart terminals, and is committed to building a cloud service and intelligent 'black soil' platform. We insist on relying on cloud services, artificial intelligence and other technologies to build a digital platform to transform our internal management and improve internal efficiency." Liang Hua gave an example, saying that in recent years, Huawei has selected technical services and financial systems as breakthroughs and has achieved significant results. Huawei's network planning, network optimization, and base station planning and design in many regions have achieved efficiency improvements due to the intervention of AI technology.

"The key to Huawei's persistence in artificial intelligence lies in breakthroughs in basic research and application scenarios. As early as 2012, Huawei's Noah's Ark Laboratory officially invested in basic research, algorithm research, and computing power research on AI. After years of accumulation, it has been applied to terminal products such as mobile phones. We identify the application scenarios of artificial intelligence technology and simplify complex scenarios to make AI high-end but not expensive. Artificial intelligence requires a large amount of data and industry knowledge training to be effective. We will guard data boundaries, use data legally, and create an artificial intelligence and cloud service platform that is 'affordable, easy to use, and safe to use' to enable customers and create value." Liang Hua said.

Liang Hua also emphasized that as a cutting-edge technology, the development of artificial intelligence must lay a solid foundation and require long-term attention to basic research. We cannot "artificial intelligence" for the sake of "artificial intelligence", nor can we "bubble" or "catch the trend". We must fully apply the accumulation of algorithms, computing power, and data for actual business scenarios to produce actual results and benefits. Huawei drives the company's development with technological innovation and customer needs. We will actively understand industry trends and customer needs, continue to increase investment in technological innovation, openness and cooperation, symbiosis and win-win, truly enable the industry and customers, and create value.
