"Wo connects everything, wins the edge with intelligence" 2018 China Unicom Edge Cloud Ecosystem Partner Conference was held in Beijing

On June 13-14, the "2018 China Unicom Edge Cloud Ecosystem Partner Conference" was held in Beijing. With the theme of "Wo Connecting Everything, Winning the Edge with Intelligence", China Unicom worked with strategic partners to fully convey the strategy and vision of China Unicom's edge cloud in the 5G transformation era, share China Unicom's successful experience in exploring and accelerating 5G commercialization, and showcase China Unicom's world-leading Cube-Edge edge business platform and the results of many edge cloud scale pilots jointly carried out with ecological partners, in order to better promote the development of MEC edge cloud technology, build an edge cloud industry ecosystem, gather the strength of the industry, and achieve win-win cooperation. The conference was hosted by Li Guangju, general manager of China Unicom's government and enterprise customer business department.

As one of the key elements of operators' 5G network reconstruction, MEC edge cloud can sink high-bandwidth, low-latency, and localized services to the edge of the network, while also providing unlimited possibilities for business service innovation.

Shao Guanglu pointed out, "As the DC closest to users, edge cloud is one of the key elements of operator network reconstruction and the 'last mile' to optimize the 5G service experience. China Unicom will work with industry partners to promote the development of edge cloud, pool industry strength, accelerate the innovation and incubation of edge applications, comprehensively promote the vigorous development of the 5G edge ecosystem, and achieve win-win industrial cooperation."

Taking "ingenious network, reform and transformation" as the key words for development, China Unicom leverages the advantages of mixed-ownership reform and is committed to evolving towards a cloud-based, ubiquitous, open and intelligent future intelligent network with CUBE-Net 2.0 as the target network architecture.

Ma Hongbing, General Manager of China Unicom Group Operation and Maintenance Department, said in his speech that MEC edge cloud, as a key element of China Unicom's all-cloud network architecture, plays a connecting role in China Unicom's three-level communication cloud architecture. Implementation is the most important driver for realizing the value of MEC edge cloud. In 2018, China Unicom has successfully launched pilot projects in 15 provinces and cities to explore business scenarios for MEC edge cloud.

Zhang Yong, president of China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute, proposed that how to use MEC edge cloud to empower 5G industry applications is an issue that the entire industry needs to think about urgently on the eve of the arrival of 5G. At this conference, Zhang Yong comprehensively explained China Unicom's edge cloud basic capabilities and industry cooperation strategies to the edge cloud industry chain partners. In terms of network, China Unicom will accelerate the reconstruction of 5G network to provide flexible and reliable guarantees for edge cloud; in terms of platform, China Unicom advocates the creation of its own Cube-Edge edge business platform; in terms of standards, China Unicom will focus on international and domestic, lead a number of MEC international standards, and lead the development of the industry chain.

Innovate and develop business first. In terms of implementation, China Unicom has taken the lead in pilot projects, actively promoted the construction of multi-service MEC pilot projects, and gradually explored edge cloud ecological business scenarios: built the world's largest MEC edge cloud test bed in Tianjin; built smart venues in Beijing in all aspects to meet the Winter Olympics; developed industrial edge cloud in Guangdong and entered intelligent manufacturing; promoted the construction of edge government cloud such as smart parks in Zhejiang; built a "cloud-edge collaboration" Internet of Vehicles demonstration base in Chongqing; started the construction of the "Red Journey" smart scenic spot in Fujian; combined video surveillance with edge AI in Hubei, Jiangsu and other places, and applied it on a large scale in scenarios such as smart agriculture, and successfully incubated the Edge-Eye edge cloud product.

At present, China Unicom has carried out many explorations in MEC edge cloud technology research, standardization and business demonstration. It has led the formulation of many technical standards in international and domestic standardization organizations. At this conference, the unveiling ceremony of China Unicom's edge cloud innovation laboratory was officially held. Leaders from China Unicom, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Tencent, JD.com, Alibaba and other units unveiled the innovation laboratory in the presence of industry chain representatives from across the country.
