A single flower does not make spring. Operators move forward in unison to accelerate the large-scale commercial use of 5G

The pace of 5G construction in China is changing day by day. Recently, China Mobile took the lead in launching the first 5G test network, China Unicom established a 5G working group, and China Telecom plans to expand the number of 5G pilot cities to 12. The whole country is accelerating the large-scale commercial use of 5G.

On April 23, the Chongqing 5G test network built by China Mobile was officially launched, marking that China Mobile took the lead in launching the first 5G test network. It is understood that Chongqing is one of the first cities in the country approved by the National Development and Reform Commission to undertake 5G large-scale network construction and application demonstration projects. The official launch of the first 5G test network built by China Mobile in Chongqing also means the official start of Chongqing's 5G network commercialization.

According to the plan, China Mobile will build 50 5G base stations in Chongqing's main urban area in 2018. Subsequently, it will gradually expand the coverage of the 5G network, vigorously carry out the construction of 5G infrastructure networking, and build a 5G network that covers the entire Chongqing area.

In fact, China Mobile’s senior management has recently sent out new signals about 5G to the outside world: China Mobile is accelerating the end-to-end maturity of the 5G industry, striving to create a number of cross-industry innovative 5G applications, and accelerating the large-scale commercial use of 5G.

It is understood that after years of operation, China Mobile's TD-LTE base stations have exceeded 1.96 million and users have exceeded 670 million, both ranking first in the world. At the 5G level, China Mobile is vigorously building a gigabit-led wired broadband all-optical network, as well as new facilities such as data centers, cloud computing centers, and content distribution networks, strengthening 5G key technology research and standard guidance, promoting the end-to-end maturity of the 5G industry, creating a number of cross-industry innovative applications, and accelerating the large-scale commercialization of 5G.

A single flower does not make a spring. While China Mobile took the lead in launching its first 5G trial network, China Unicom also recently established a 5G "1+N" working group. The so-called "1" refers to the 5G Innovation Center, and "N" represents several provincial branches. This move is also intended to accelerate the development of 5G.

At a recent conference, China Unicom revealed that it will carry out 5G large-scale network construction and business demonstration in five cities this year. It will also carry out 5G pilots and simultaneously start 5G business verification in 16 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guiyang, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Zhengzhou, and Shenyang.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the three major operators have confirmed that the National Development and Reform Commission and other relevant departments have approved China Unicom, China Telecom and China Mobile to pilot the construction of 5G networks in some cities such as Beijing. Previously, China Telecom had six 5G pilot cities, and according to the requirements of relevant state ministries and commissions, it will continue to expand the scope of the pilot and add another six cities. These have accumulated rich experience for the subsequent large-scale commercial use of 5G.
