Not long ago, there was news that China Unicom was about to shut down its 2G network. Today, it was finally confirmed that China Unicom plans to no longer support 2G networks for newly issued China Unicom cards from April 1, 2018, and completely shut down 2G networks for all China Unicom users in 2019. In other words, in the near future, China Unicom cards can only use 3G and above networks. The 2G network was officially born in 2001. More than ten years later, 2G is finally going to exit the stage of history.
The three major operators have launched 5G networks in many regions this year. 5G mobile phones will be officially released in 2019, and 5G networks will be fully implemented in 2020. Therefore, it is understandable that 2G networks will soon be phased out. The launch of 2G networks may have an impact on some elderly phones that only support 2G networks. In addition, for some remote areas, if there is no 2G network and 3G signals cannot be received, then calls cannot be made, which is also an impact. According to data released by China Unicom, the number of 4G users increased by 70.33 million in 2017, reaching 175 million. Combined with the 4G users added in 2018, there are approximately 187 million 4G users so far. |
