Is your home network not powerful enough? Let's see if you have fallen into these "pitfalls"!

Everyone may be familiar with the Internet. Both wired and wireless networking have been widely used. However, through a series of surveys and netizens' responses, we found that the Internet experience of many families can only be described as "not satisfactory". After visiting and listening to everyone's feedback, we found that the poor Internet experience of many families is because you "fall into the trap"!

In this article, let us take a look at the pitfalls in home networking through several examples.

Scene 1: Can you believe that parents are setting a trap?

I believe that many people have had the experience of decorating their houses. Perhaps more people would choose to do the decoration of their new house by themselves. After all, only they know what style they like. However, some people are unable to do it by themselves for various reasons. It may be because they are lazy, or they may be too busy with work to have time. I myself am a combination of the two.

That’s right, I’m lazy and can use being busy at work as an excuse!

As a pure "Beijing drifter", I have lived in Beijing for a long time since I started working. But I bought a house in my hometown not long ago (I can't afford the house in Beijing!), and then I was troubled by the decoration work. Because of work (and laziness), I can't watch the decoration every day, so the decoration work was handed over to my parents who have lived in my hometown for a long time. Of course, I also explained my favorite style to my parents. After a period of busy work, the decoration was completed, but when I actually moved in, I found that there was a problem, and this problem was not the decoration style problem as I imagined, but the network problem.

I believe everyone knows that one of the important tasks during renovation is to change the water and electricity, but there is also a task called network wiring. Parents who do not have great needs for the network tend to ignore the importance of this issue. In a house of less than 130 square meters, only one network interface is set up in the study, and there are no network ports in other rooms.

Some people may say that wireless can be set up, but the problem is that the study is located in the corner of the whole house, and it is impossible to achieve full signal coverage anyway. Even if the signal coverage requirement can be met, can the wireless network really support the access needs of multiple network terminals in the whole family without the support of redundant wires?

(1) Lessons learned: When decorating a new house, you must consider the network cabling issue in advance. This is especially true for houses with built-in wiring, as the possibility of rewiring is very small. If you entrust the decoration work to your parents, you must inform them in advance because your parents may not know much about the Internet.

(2) Remedial measures: Most newly renovated houses will not undergo large-scale changes, and few people will drill holes in the wall to rewire because of network wiring problems. In this case, we can use a wireless extender for wireless expansion. If there is a need for a wired network port, there is no better way than to run open wires along the wall, which will have a certain impact on the overall aesthetics.

Scenario 2: Be extremely careful when selecting materials online

The second example is slightly similar to the first one. It is also a decoration scene and a network wiring problem, but the difference is that the owner considered the wiring problem before the decoration and reserved the correct network interface.

A colleague of mine also bought a property in his hometown (once again lamenting that he could not afford the Beijing property). He had made relevant plans before the renovation. In addition to the bathroom and kitchen, almost every room had an Internet access, which could be considered very complete. However, when he actually moved in, he found that the Internet speed was not as ideal as he had expected. So what was the problem? The broadband was a newly opened 100M broadband, and the router was also the most mainstream dual-band wireless routing product that supports the 802.11ac wireless protocol.

After checking one by one, we found the problem - the network cabling was short-handed and the materials were cut. It turned out that although the network cabling problem was considered during the renovation and explained to the renovation construction team, the renovation workers wanted to use low cost to seek high profits. The agreed Category 5e network cable was inexplicably changed to a "fake" Category 5 network cable. The so-called fake Category 5 network cable is to replace the original copper wire core with an iron wire core. In this way, it is almost impossible to have an ideal network speed.

(1) Lessons learned: When decorating a new house, in addition to considering the network interface, you must also carefully select and purchase network cables to ensure their quality. Do not regret it because of a momentary negligence.

(2) Remedial measures: In this case, as in scenario 1, it is almost impossible for the owner to carry out major renovations. In view of this, the owner can repurchase network cable materials that meet the requirements, use threading wire to pull out the old low-quality network cable from the wall, and introduce the newly purchased high-quality network cable to complete the replacement of the network cable. Of course, if it cannot be pulled out due to temporal fixation or knotting, then congratulations, you have "won the prize", and you may be able to find a professional wiring master to help replace it. Otherwise, there is no choice but to run open wires along the wall to lay the network!

Scenario 3: What is the wireless router “in the cabinet”?

If the first two scenarios are caused by problems in the early decoration, then the problems encountered in the next scenario are directly related to the owner.

I once visited a friend's house and asked him to help me connect to the wireless network. He turned on the guest mode of the wireless router and connected me to it, which shows that he has some network security awareness. But after using it for a while, I found that the wireless network experience was not very good. Logically speaking, with 100M broadband and the latest 802.11ac compliant wireless router, the network should not be too bad. I told my friend about it and he started to complain:

My friend said that for some reason, his home wireless network has not been very good, and sometimes there is no signal suddenly. Neither the network TV nor the mobile terminal can have a good network experience. He also took me to the configuration background of the wireless router. I took a quick look and found that there was indeed no problem with the configuration. Then I asked him to take a look at your product to see if it was related to the antenna placement angle. Then my friend asked me to go and take a look. The next scene made me blind:

When I saw his wireless router, I immediately understood that it was impossible for his wireless signal to be strong. His wireless router is placed in a similar position to many other homes, like this:

Some friends who are more skillful will do this:

A good wireless router is actually placed in a low-voltage box or cabinet. Such a clever design perfectly achieves the overall aesthetics, but also creates a very poor wireless network signal.

(1) Lessons learned: Wireless routers cannot guarantee stability as well as wired networks. Do not place wireless routers in a corner or even in a cabinet just for the sake of overall aesthetics, as this will have a significant impact on the wireless signal.

(2) Remedial measures: Compared with the first two scenarios, this situation is the easiest to deal with. Just take out the wireless router and place it in a suitable location. If you really feel that it affects the overall appearance, you can buy some other wireless routers. There are many personalized wireless routers on the market. If you match them properly, they can even add points to the beauty of your house.

From this point of view, there are indeed many pitfalls in home networking, and if you are not careful, you will "successfully fall into the pit". If you are still scratching your head because of the poor network experience, then I think it is time to conduct a check and "prescribe the right medicine" when you encounter problems, so that your home network can truly add points to your home life, rather than become your "criticism"!
