The revenue and profits of the three major operators have skyrocketed. Will the income of employees also increase at the same time? What does it have to do with the employees?

Recently, the three major operators have released their third-quarter performance reports, and the results are very impressive.

China Mobile: Revenue of 648.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.9%; net profit of 87.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%.

China Unicom: Revenue of 244.4 billion yuan, an increase of 8.5% year-on-year; net profit of 12.9 billion yuan, an increase of 19.4% year-on-year.

China Telecom: Revenue of 326.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.3%; net profit of 23.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 24.7%.

Looking at China Telecom's revenue and net profit growth rates, who would have thought that this was the performance of a company that was extremely pessimistic in the capital market?! This is simply the performance of a star Internet company!

Therefore, some employees will begin to yearn for a rise in salary levels that have been depressed for many years.

Let’s analyze this topic today.

First, the three major operators are all central enterprises, under the control of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and implement a "dual control" policy - that is, controlling both the number of employees and the total salary. Therefore, the condition for achieving a salary increase is: increasing the total salary while maintaining or reducing the number of employees.

The total annual employee salary and employee establishment numbers of central enterprises are clearly announced at the beginning of the year and generally do not change, unless the enterprise exceeds its targets for the year and completes its tasks beautifully, and the SASAC adds additional funds to the enterprise for use as incentives, which are generally reflected in year-end bonuses or quarterly bonuses.

Will the three major operators, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, win additional bonuses from the SASAC this year with their outstanding performance? When assessing whether a central enterprise is outstanding, the SASAC will not look at the enterprise or industry in isolation, but will compare it with the entire camp of central enterprises.

So, are the performances of the three major operators today considered excellent among central enterprises?

Let's compare:

According to data released by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission not long ago, in the first three quarters of this year, 96 central enterprises achieved a total operating income of 26.2 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.9% and an increase of 18.3% over the same period in 2019. In terms of net profit, central enterprises achieved a total net profit of 1,512.96 billion yuan in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 65.6% and an increase of 43.2% over the same period in 2019.

In comparison, the revenue of central enterprises increased by 23.9% year-on-year, China Mobile's revenue increased by 12.9%, China Telecom's was 12.3%, and China Unicom's was 8.5%, all of which were significantly behind the average level of central enterprises.

Looking at the net profit situation, the net profit of central enterprises increased by 65.6% year-on-year, China Mobile's net profit increased by 6.9% year-on-year, China Telecom's was 24.7%, and China Unicom's was 19.4%, which were also significantly behind the average level of central enterprises.

So, to be honest, the three major operators are not that outstanding among the 96 central enterprises, and their performance is not as good as that of their peers.

Under such circumstances, I don’t think we should expect the SASAC to add incentive bonuses this year. Therefore, employees who hope to see a big salary increase this year should give up such thoughts as soon as possible and live a down-to-earth life.

Of course, the group companies of the three major operators should not withhold bonuses this year. After all, good performance does not fall from the sky, but is brought back by grassroots employees who work hard to win over customers one by one. It is really unreasonable to withhold bonuses this year.
